Brandon Williams has made a strong early impression at the Golden State Warriors’ 2026 training camp, with head coach Steve Kerr reportedly singling out his speed and disruptive defense. That praise puts Williams in the conversation, but it does not guarantee a rotation spot: he is expected to compete with De’Anthony Melton, Gary Payton and Will Richard for playing time.
What Steve Kerr reportedly said about Williams
A CBS Sports/RotoWire report dated October 2, 2026, attributed to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, says Kerr praised Williams’s speed and described him as a “defensive pest.” The report quotes Kerr calling Williams the “fastest guy we’ve ever had.” These comments are available through CBS Sports/RotoWire’s account; they should not be read as a longer direct interview transcript.
That early praise points to the qualities Williams has shown in camp: quickness and the ability to make life difficult for opponents. It is an encouraging observation, not a published evaluation of his defensive numbers or a promise of minutes.
What Williams brings from his 2025–26 Dallas season
Williams arrives from a productive season with the Dallas Mavericks. NBA.com’s August 27, 2026 signing report says he averaged 13 points and 3.9 assists in 66 appearances. NBA.com lists his playing time at 22.2 minutes per game; CBS Sports/RotoWire reports that he made 15 starts.

Can Williams earn a Warriors rotation spot?
Possibly, but the available reporting describes a competition rather than a settled role. CBS Sports/RotoWire says Williams will likely fight for playing time alongside De’Anthony Melton, Gary Payton and Will Richard. It does not give a confirmed depth chart or a minutes projection.
