What VSUsbLogon is described to do
Software directories and a third-party tutorial describe VSUsbLogon as a Windows utility that associates a USB device with a user account and offers device-based sign-in. Software Informer attributes it to Lokibit and reports version 1.13.3, but that directory listing is not an official release record: Software Informer’s VSUsbLogon listing.
The available sources do not establish which Windows versions the current software supports, whether it is still maintained, or its product-specific security history. Software Informer repeats an AES-256 encryption claim; naming an encryption algorithm does not independently demonstrate that the implementation is safe or resistant to attacks.
How the described USB sign-in setup works
A MYETV Blog walkthrough published October 15, 2022 describes using a USB flash drive, assigning it to a Windows user, and selecting either PIN-based or automatic sign-in: MYETV’s VSUsbLogon setup walkthrough. These are the tutorial’s reported steps, not a verified test of the present-day program.

- Install VSUsbLogon from a source you have independently checked.
- Connect a USB flash drive and select it in the software.
- Assign the device to the intended Windows user account.
- Configure the sign-in behavior the software offers, such as a PIN or automatic sign-in.
- Test sign-in and recovery before relying on the device for routine access.
The tutorial says the usual Windows account password remains usable if the USB device is lost or broken. Confirm that your own account has a working recovery method, keep its credentials secure, and do not make the USB device your only route into Windows.
VSUsbLogon is not the same as a FIDO2 security key
Microsoft documents a separate sign-in flow for FIDO2-compliant physical security keys, which may connect over USB or NFC. Depending on the key, setup and use can involve a PIN or fingerprint: Microsoft’s security-key sign-in guidance. No available source establishes that FIDO2 keys work with VSUsbLogon; a generic flash drive configured for VSUsbLogon should not be described as a FIDO2 key.

Microsoft Entra also documents FIDO2 security-key sign-in to Windows 10 and Windows 11, subject to administrative policy prerequisites: Microsoft Entra’s FIDO2 sign-in guidance. That work-or-school identity flow is distinct from VSUsbLogon. For Microsoft-account or organization sign-in, check the account, device, and policy requirements in Microsoft’s documentation before choosing a passwordless method.
What to verify before installing or relying on it
- Authentic software source: Verify the publisher and download source rather than assuming a software-directory listing is an official vendor download.
- Windows compatibility: Check whether the version you obtain explicitly supports your Windows release; a current support matrix is not established by the available sources.
- Maintenance and security: Look for current vendor documentation, release information, and security advisories. The available sources do not verify current maintenance or a product-specific security record.
- Recovery access: Confirm you can still sign in if the USB device is damaged, misplaced, or unavailable. Keep the fallback credentials protected.
- Device expectations: The tutorial describes a USB flash drive, but the available evidence does not establish a required brand, capacity, certification, or compatibility list.
- Account type: Identify whether you are signing in to a local Windows account, Microsoft account, or Entra work or school identity. Supported methods and prerequisites differ.
Windows security features serve different purposes
Secure Boot and Local Security Authority protection are Windows security capabilities documented by Microsoft; they are not USB login methods and do not establish that VSUsbLogon is secure: Microsoft’s Device Security overview. Treat device protection, account authentication, and account recovery as separate parts of a security plan.
