Do you need to pay a subscription to use vMix?
No. Basic HD, HD, 4K, and Pro are described as one-time lifetime purchases. Each includes 12 months of free version updates. When that period ends, you can keep using the version you activated indefinitely or buy an update upgrade to receive further updates. Max is the monthly subscription, with Pro-equivalent features; vMix’s licensing FAQ says its payments are charged in US dollars. Which vMix license fits a 24/7 YouTube stream?
Decide by the production you need to build, not by the intended broadcast duration. vMix’s edition guide advises buyers to consider inputs and cameras, overlays, resolution, recording, fullscreen or external outputs, Instant Replay, PTZ control, and vMix Call callers. The official comparison lists 4 total inputs for Basic HD and 1,000 for HD, 4K, Pro, and Max. Its maximum resolution is 1920 × 1080 for Basic HD and HD, and 4096 × 2160 for 4K, Pro, and Max.

The input and resolution figures are only part of the comparison. Check the vendor’s full feature table for differences in overlay channels, recording, caller capacity, replay, outputs, and other production tools; select the lowest tier that covers your specific requirements. For a simple, single-camera 1080p production, compare Basic HD’s feature limits with the functions you need before paying for a higher tier. A multi-camera or feature-heavy setup may need a higher edition, but the exact choice depends on its inputs and production features.

The official purchase and edition materials do not state that a 24-hour stream requires Pro or Max, nor do they promise 24/7 uptime for any license. vMix is Windows PC production software; a license does not ensure that a particular computer, capture setup, power supply, or internet connection can sustain an uninterrupted broadcast. The vMix documentation covers supported software and hardware categories, but does not establish a specific computer specification for every setup.
What YouTube’s 12-hour limit means for a 24-hour stream
YouTube Help says it can automatically archive a live stream if it is less than 12 hours long. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. YouTube also warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. These platform behaviors apply whichever vMix edition you use. - If the stream must remain continuous: do not assume YouTube will save the complete 24-hour program or provide full DVR rewind; retain a separate recording if you need a dependable copy.
For the YouTube connection, YouTube’s encoder instructions direct creators to use the Live server URL and stream key in the encoder, configure the encoder, and start the stream. vMix says it supports streaming to YouTube. The documented high-level workflow does not specify a special vMix tier for long broadcasts or establish a tested 24-hour handoff procedure. Follow the current YouTube encoder setup instructions, and do not share your stream key: anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.

Before running a long loop, confirm that you have the necessary rights to every video, music track, image, and other material in the playlist, and review YouTube’s current rules for live streaming and monetization.
