Visual Studio Code 1.114, released April 1, 2026, focused on making AI chat easier to review, share, troubleshoot, and use for finding workspace context. The headline changes add video playback to the image carousel, a command to copy only an agent’s final response, and a way to reference an earlier chat session during troubleshooting. The release also makes #codebase a semantic-search-only tool.
What’s new in VS Code 1.114 AI chat?
The release groups its changes around common chat tasks: viewing media, sharing an answer, diagnosing a past interaction, and searching a codebase. These are changes announced for version 1.114, rather than a complete list of current VS Code Chat capabilities.

How does video playback in the image carousel work?
The carousel, introduced in the preceding release, gained support for video attached to chat and opened from the Explorer context menu. Playback controls and navigation let you move among images and videos using arrows or thumbnails. This is a way to review media in a coding workspace, not a video-editing feature. Microsoft’s VS Code 1.114 release notes describe the change.
How do you copy only an agent’s final answer?
In the Chat view, open the chat context menu and choose Copy Final Response. Earlier copy options could include the wider conversation or a response with agent thinking and tool calls. The new command copies the last Markdown section of the agent’s response after tool calls have run, which is useful when you want to share the result without the surrounding activity. The release notes document the command.

How can you troubleshoot an earlier chat session?
The preview /troubleshoot skill can analyze agent debug logs to help diagnose chat customization issues. In 1.114, you can include #session in the prompt and select an earlier session from the picker, so you can investigate a past interaction without first reproducing it. The related settings named in the release notes are github.copilot.chat.agentDebugLog.enabled and github.copilot.chat.agentDebugLog.fileLogging.enabled. What changed about #codebase and workspace indexing?
Version 1.114 describes #codebase as a semantic-search-only tool. Its former fallback to fuzzy text search was removed. Copilot can still use text, grep, and symbol searches through other methods, so removing that fallback does not mean those search approaches are unavailable. The indexing experience was simplified: instead of presenting local and remote indexing as the central distinction, it focuses on whether a codebase is semantically indexed. Copilot can use semantic search automatically when appropriate, and indexing is built on demand. Previously indexed workspaces may need reindexing, often because they used a local non-semantic index. The release notes also caution that especially large codebases without a GitHub repository might not yet be indexable. Other search methods can still provide context.

The current AI settings reference, accessed October 4, 2026, lists chat.viewSessions.enabled with a default of true and chat.viewSessions.orientation with a default of sideBySide. These are reference values at that date, not claims about settings added in 1.114; settings and defaults can change.
