Vision is a synthezoid in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios’ WandaVision production brief specifically confirms that he can change density and walk through things. After the series, a rebooted Vision is in hiding—and Disney’s VisionQuest synopsis sets his next story in motion.
What is Vision, and what powers are confirmed?
Vision is a synthezoid: an artificial being, rather than a human or a witch like Wanda. In Marvel Studios’ WandaVision production brief, head writer Jac Schaeffer puts their contrast simply: “She’s a witch, he’s synthezoid. She can dry dishes in the air. He can change density and walk through things.” That statement confirms two MCU abilities: density manipulation and phasing through objects.

The brief does not offer a complete catalogue of Vision’s abilities or rank him against other characters. It is safest to treat density change and phasing as the powers specifically established by this source, rather than assume they are the whole list.

What happened to Vision before WandaVision?
WandaVision begins shortly after Avengers: Endgame, according to the production brief. That broad placement gives the series its starting point, but does not establish a precise number of days or provide a complete account of Vision’s appearances across the MCU.
#1 Best Overall
The series, which debuted on 15 January 2021, places Wanda and Vision in an idealized suburban life that gradually reveals itself to be more complicated than it first appears. Its sitcom-inspired settings shift across eras as the domestic story develops into a mystery. The production brief also describes the pair’s connection as intrinsic to the Infinity Stone and frames their relationship as romantic and tragic.
Spoilers: What is Vision’s status after WandaVision?
Spoilers for the WandaVision finale: Disney’s official VisionQuest press kit identifies the Vision at the center of the new series as “rebooted.” It says he escaped people who sought to weaponize him and has been in hiding.
Rank #2
This is the key status to know before VisionQuest: the press kit describes a rebooted Vision, not a full history of how every earlier MCU event led to his present condition. It does not provide a detailed technical comparison of this version’s memories or capabilities with those of the earlier Vision, so those details should not be assumed from the synopsis alone.

Disney describes VisionQuest as a story about Vision searching for identity under pressure. He consults AI personas within his programming—Friday, Edith, Jarvis, and Ultron—while a bounty forces him to flee with Thomas Shepard.
The official synopsis says Thomas “may be Vision’s son, reincarnate.” That is presented as an open possibility, not a confirmed fact about their relationship. Disney calls VisionQuest the final part of a trilogy that began with WandaVision (2021) and continued with Agatha All Along (2024); that framing alone does not mean every plot thread from Agatha All Along must be recapped to follow Vision’s story.

As of 4 October 2026, VisionQuest is scheduled to debut exclusively on Disney+ on 14 October 2026, according to Disney’s press kit. Because that date is still in the future at the time of writing, it is a scheduled release, not a confirmation that the series is already available.
