Visa’s fiscal third-quarter 2026 results beat the market’s adjusted-profit expectation as consumers and businesses continued spending. For the quarter ended June 30, Visa reported $5.6 billion in GAAP net income, up 7% year over year, and $6.3 billion in non-GAAP net income, up 8%. Net revenue increased 14% to $11.633 billion, while adjusted earnings per share reached $3.32, above the $3.23 LSEG consensus cited by Reuters.
The quarter’s growth came from higher payment and cross-border volumes, more processed transactions and event-related travel spending. However, operating costs rose faster than revenue, and GAAP results included severance, litigation and tax items that make the adjusted and reported figures materially different.
What were Visa’s fiscal Q3 2026 results?
Visa delivered double-digit revenue and transaction growth in the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The main figures were:

Reuters reported that Visa’s payments volume exceeded $4 trillion for the first time. That figure reflects the scale of spending moving across Visa’s network, rather than Visa’s own revenue.

Did Visa beat earnings estimates?
Yes. Visa’s $3.32 non-GAAP EPS exceeded the $3.23 LSEG consensus estimate reported by Reuters. The comparison is on an adjusted basis; GAAP EPS was lower at $2.97 because reported earnings included specified special items and their tax effects.
Visa Chief Executive Ryan McInerney said consumer and business spending remained resilient and that the company’s payments, commercial, money-movement and value-added-services businesses all contributed to performance.
Why did Visa’s quarterly profit rise?
Visa attributed revenue growth to increased payments volume, cross-border volume and processed transactions. Its revenue categories grew at different rates:
- Data-processing revenue: $6.0 billion, up 17%.
- International-transaction revenue: $3.9 billion, up 6%.
- Other revenue: $1.5 billion, up 45%.
Client incentives rose 18% to $4.7 billion. These payments to clients support Visa’s network relationships, but they also reduce the amount of gross network economics retained before expenses, so headline revenue growth should not be read as the same thing as growth in every margin measure.

How much did Visa payment and cross-border volume grow?
Payments volume increased 10% in constant dollars. Total cross-border volume rose 13%, or 12% when intra-Europe transactions were excluded. Processed transactions climbed 10% to 71.7 billion.
Cross-border volume is especially important because international transactions generally generate more revenue than domestic payment activity. The quarter’s increase therefore reflected both more spending and continued travel-related activity, although Visa did not provide a single companywide figure isolating the World Cup’s contribution.
How did the 2026 World Cup affect Visa?
Reuters linked the strong volume performance partly to travel associated with the FIFA World Cup. Visa said card-present transactions in selected host cities rose by as much as 20% on match days, according to CFO Chris Suh’s post-earnings comments.
That statistic applies to selected cities and match days, not to Visa’s entire global network or the whole quarter. It indicates a localized boost to in-person spending and cross-border activity, while the broader results also depended on ordinary consumer and business purchases.

What costs and special items affected the quarter?
GAAP operating expenses increased 19% to $4.8 billion, primarily because of higher personnel costs. Visa’s current-quarter special items included $563 million of severance costs and a $237 million litigation provision related to the interchange multidistrict litigation case. The GAAP calculation also reflected a deferred-tax benefit.
Visa’s non-GAAP reconciliation removes specified items and related tax effects. That is why adjusted net income and EPS are higher than the corresponding GAAP figures. The two measures are not interchangeable: GAAP shows the accounting result under generally accepted principles, while adjusted results are intended to exclude items management identifies as unusual or not representative.
Reuters also reported that Visa planned to eliminate about 7% of its workforce, with roles primarily in technology and product teams, as part of an efficiency effort. Workforce reductions may lower future costs, but they can also affect product development and execution; the quarter’s results do not establish the eventual financial effect.

| Fiscal quarter | Net revenue | Revenue growth | GAAP net income | Net-income growth |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q1 2026 | $10.9 billion | 15% | $5.9 billion | not stated |
| Q2 2026 | $11.2 billion | 17% | $6.0 billion | 32% |
| Q3 2026 | $11.633 billion | 14% | $5.6 billion | 7% |
Revenue growth remained strong in Q3, but the 14% increase was below Q2’s 17%. GAAP net income also grew more slowly than in Q2, when the year-over-year comparison showed 32% growth. Different special items and comparison effects mean quarterly growth rates should not be treated as a straight-line forecast.

What did Visa return to shareholders?
Visa reported $6.2 billion in share repurchases and dividends during the quarter. Those distributions return cash to shareholders, but they do not explain the underlying increase in payment activity or revenue; those came from network volumes, transactions and related services.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What does the quarter say about consumer spending?
The combination of 10% constant-dollar payments-volume growth, 13% total cross-border growth and a record payments-volume level above $4 trillion supports Visa’s description of spending as resilient. Reuters’ reporting also connected the results with steady everyday spending and World Cup travel.
At the same time, resilience does not mean every region, merchant category or consumer group grew at the same rate. Visa’s disclosed figures are network-wide aggregates, and the company did not provide a complete breakdown of spending by income group or geography in the cited quarter results.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Visa’s GAAP and non-GAAP earnings?
GAAP earnings include all items recognized under accounting rules, including the quarter’s severance, litigation provision and tax effects. Visa’s non-GAAP reconciliation removes specified items, so adjusted profit is useful for comparison but is not a replacement for the reported GAAP result.

Why do client incentives matter when revenue is growing?
Client incentives are payments or pricing concessions Visa makes to maintain relationships with issuing banks, merchants and other partners. When they grow faster than revenue, they can reduce the economics retained after those incentives even if reported net revenue is rising.
Will World Cup spending continue after the tournament?
Match-day activity in selected host cities is inherently temporary. Visa’s underlying quarter also included regular consumer and business spending, so future results will depend on ordinary payment trends and travel rather than the event alone.
What should readers watch after this quarter?
Key indicators include constant-dollar payments volume, cross-border growth excluding intra-Europe activity, processed transactions, client-incentive growth and operating expenses. Together they show whether revenue expansion is being supported by broad network activity and whether costs are keeping pace.
