Start by testing your mailbox in Virgin Media webmail. If webmail works but your phone or computer app does not, check that app’s password and mail-server settings. If webmail also fails, check your My Virgin Media sign-in and whether your mailbox needs to be moved to Junara.
First, find out whether the problem is webmail or your mail app
- Sign in to My Virgin Media and open Virgin Media Mail from Quick links, or go to Virgin Media’s webmail.
- Try to open your inbox. Note whether the error occurs in webmail, a third-party app, or both.
If webmail opens but an app cannot send or receive, troubleshoot that app’s credentials and server settings. If webmail sign-in fails too, check your My Virgin Media username and account access before changing device settings. Virgin Media’s email help covers both routes.
If Virgin Media Mail works in webmail but not in an app
Use the mailbox’s app password
A third-party mail app does not use your My Virgin Media sign-in password. Generate or refresh the separate Virgin Media Mail app password in your My Virgin Media account settings, then replace the saved password in every app using that mailbox. The app username must be the full Virgin Media email address, including the part after the @ sign.
Check incoming and outgoing server settings
Use these Virgin Media settings. IMAP is the recommended incoming protocol; check SMTP as well, particularly when receiving works but sending fails.

Save any changes. IMAP synchronizes mailbox changes across the server, webmail and other devices. POP3 does not provide the same cross-device behavior, so messages or actions in one client may not appear in another as they do with IMAP. Refresh the app if settings are correct
- Save the account settings, then sign out of the mail app and sign in again.
- If the issue continues on a mobile device, delete and reinstall the mail app.
- Add the mailbox again with the full email address, the app password and the correct incoming and outgoing settings above.
If you cannot sign in to webmail
Check which My Virgin Media username you use
If you changed your preferred My Virgin Media username, use the new username to sign in to webmail. It may differ from your email address. In a third-party client, however, continue to use the full mailbox address as the username and the separate app password. Virgin Media explains this distinction in its email login guidance.

Reset access if the account may have been blocked
Virgin Media’s login support directs customers whose access may have been blocked after suspicious email activity to reset the account password and generate a new app password for third-party clients. After regaining access, check your mailbox forwarding rules if you suspect someone else accessed the account. Use Virgin Media’s official email support rather than following an unexpected reset link.

Virgin Media says, “We’re handing our email service over to trusted email experts Junara.” The transition affects existing Virgin Media, Blueyonder, Virgin.net and NTLworld mailboxes. If you want to keep yours, follow the instructions in your own migration notice and check Virgin Media’s current Email service change page. Do not assume a deadline or price from another customer’s notice.

- Virgin Media says customers have at least 45 days from their first notification to sign up; the individual deadline is in the customer’s notice.
- If you miss that deadline, the mailbox is suspended. Virgin Media says there is an additional 120 days to reactivate it before deletion.
- The transfer usually takes a few minutes, and Virgin Media says you can continue using email during it. Afterward, use Junara or a third-party mail client; official guidance says client settings should not need to change.
Be alert for migration scams. Virgin Media says its emails will not contain Junara signup links or ask for personal or payment details. Navigate to Virgin Media’s official help page or Junara.com yourself; do not pay through a phone call or an emailed link.
