Videotron has selected Samsung to supply 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) and 4G LTE core network technology, extending Samsung’s existing role with Videotron from radio equipment into the network core. The February 19, 2026 announcement describes an infrastructure modernization—not a new consumer phone or an immediate promise of faster service. Neither company published measured speed, latency, coverage, or rollout-completion results.
What Videotron and Samsung announced
Samsung says Videotron selected its 5G NSA and 4G LTE Core Gateway solution to modernize Videotron’s mobile network infrastructure. The selection expands Samsung’s work with Videotron beyond the radio-access network (RAN)—the equipment that connects phones over the air—to the core systems that manage mobile-network connections and services. Samsung’s announcement
The announced technology stack combines Samsung’s cloud-native 5G and 4G core with Dell PowerEdge servers powered by AMD EPYC 9005 CPUs and Red Hat OpenShift, a Kubernetes-based hybrid-cloud application platform. This is a carrier network deployment, not equipment consumers need to buy.
Videotron reported 4,328,100 mobile lines as of September 30, 2025. That figure provides a sense of the network’s reported scale, but it does not establish how many customers will use the new core or when deployment will be complete. Videotron’s 2025 results

What 5G NSA means
NSA stands for Non-Standalone. In this configuration, a 5G radio layer works with an existing 4G LTE core rather than relying on a fully independent 5G core. Reusing LTE infrastructure can let a carrier introduce 5G without first replacing every part of its established network. MobileSyrup’s explanation of 5G NSA
Standalone (SA) 5G uses a 5G core. That distinction matters because NSA retains a dependency on LTE, while SA is designed around an end-to-end 5G network. The technology label alone does not determine the service a particular customer will experience: performance depends on deployment and operating conditions, and the announcement includes no Videotron-specific test results.

|---|---|---|
| Core network | Uses a 4G LTE core alongside 5G radio | Uses a 5G core |
| Use of existing infrastructure | Can reuse the LTE structure, supporting a faster 5G deployment | Requires a standalone 5G core |
| Peak performance | May improve on LTE, but may not reach SA 5G’s peaks; no Videotron measurements have been published | Can support higher 5G peaks, but no Videotron comparison has been published |
| Videotron-specific operational claims | The companies cite improved operational flexibility and more seamless connectivity; no measured outcomes are stated | Not stated in the announcement |
Will this make Videotron faster or improve coverage?
It could support network improvements, but the announcement does not establish that customers will see faster speeds, lower latency, or broader coverage—and it gives no timetable for customer-facing effects. Samsung and Videotron cite operational flexibility and more seamless connectivity as benefits, but provide no measurements or results. Samsung’s announcement MobileSyrup’s coverage
In practical terms, this is news about the underlying network architecture, not a confirmed change to a customer’s plan, device, coverage map, or advertised service. A network-core modernization and a faster experience are not interchangeable claims: actual results would need to be demonstrated after deployment.

How this fits Videotron’s Samsung partnership
The companies already had a radio-access relationship. In December 2019, Videotron selected Samsung for LTE-Advanced and 5G radio-access technologies in Quebec and the Ottawa region, with service availability then targeted to begin gradually in the second half of 2020. The 2026 core selection broadens that relationship into another part of the network. Samsung’s 2019 announcement
Samsung Networks executive Stephen Wiktorski described the expansion this way: “The expansion of our relationship with Videotron from RAN to Core is a testament to Samsung’s best-in-class virtualized end-to-end network technology.” Samsung’s statement
