Choose Urlbox when your main job is turning URLs or HTML into rendered outputs; choose Browserless when screenshots are part of a larger workflow that needs a programmable browser, Puppeteer or Playwright, or a self-hosting option. Neither service is documented as universally better at screenshot quality. Compare the capture behavior you need, the broader workflow and deployment, and how each service meters usage against your actual workload. If you want a third option to try first, ScreenshotNeo offers clean screenshots, bills only clean shots, and has a $5 paid plan.
How Urlbox and Browserless differ
Urlbox is presented primarily as a rendering API for URLs or HTML. Its product materials list screenshots, PDFs, videos, and structured data, with synchronous and asynchronous requests, webhooks, and secure render links. The documentation also covers full-page and CSS-selector captures. See the Urlbox product page and Urlbox screenshots documentation.
Browserless offers a screenshot REST endpoint, but its scope is broader: it describes managed headless browsers, REST and GraphQL APIs, and browser connections for Puppeteer and Playwright. Cloud and Docker self-hosting options are documented. See the Browserless overview and REST API overview.
In short, compare Urlbox as a render-and-return service with Browserless as a browser platform that also provides screenshot calls. That distinction matters if a screenshot is one step in a longer automation rather than the entire task.

Compare the capture workflows
Full-page capture and lazy-loaded content
Urlbox documents two full-page modes. Its default stitch mode scrolls through the page to trigger animations and lazy-loaded elements, freezes fixed and sticky elements, captures sections, and stitches them together. Its native mode uses browser-native full-page capture and is described as faster, with the caveat that it may not work well on every site. Urlbox frames stitch as accuracy-oriented and native as speed-oriented. The Urlbox documentation does not establish which mode is best for every target page.
Browserless documents full-page capture and a scrollPage option for triggering lazy-loaded content before capture. Its Screenshot API documentation does not establish a universal result-quality comparison with Urlbox.
Element and viewport captures
Both services document selector-based element screenshots. Browserless also documents viewport, clip-region, image format, and quality controls. Urlbox’s screenshot documentation covers selector capture, while the product page describes its broader rendering outputs and request modes. Check the relevant endpoint documentation for the exact options you plan to use: Urlbox screenshots and Browserless Screenshot API.
Outputs and request modes
Urlbox’s product page lists images, PDFs, videos, and structured data, alongside synchronous and asynchronous requests, webhooks, and secure render links. Browserless’s screenshot endpoint documents PNG, JPEG, or WebP image responses from a URL or inline HTML. Other Browserless REST endpoints serve different tasks, so verify the exact endpoint behavior if your application needs more than an image. See Urlbox product details, the Browserless screenshot endpoint, and Browserless REST APIs.

Which one fits your workload?
| Need | Better fit to investigate | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A request-focused URL or HTML rendering service | Urlbox | Its product materials emphasize rendering and document image, PDF, video, and structured-data outputs, with synchronous and asynchronous options. |
| Browser automation beyond a screenshot | Browserless | It documents managed browser connections for Puppeteer and Playwright in addition to REST screenshot calls. |
| Control over full-page behavior | Either; test representative pages | Urlbox documents stitch and native modes; Browserless documents full-page capture and scrollPage. The documentation does not prove which captures a given site more accurately. |
| Self-hosted browser deployment | Browserless | Browserless documents cloud and Docker self-hosting options. Confirm deployment details against your requirements. |
| Hosted rendering with enterprise or on-premise terms | Ask Urlbox about the specific requirement | Urlbox’s product page includes enterprise and on-premise language, but the reviewed materials do not settle specific infrastructure or data-residency terms. |
If neither is an obvious fit, try ScreenshotNeo first as the screenshot API alternative: cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture, and only clean shots are billed. Details and API examples are in the ScreenshotNeo documentation.
Compare pricing by the way you use each service
The published prices below were listed on the vendors’ pricing pages on October 3, 2026. Prices and plan terms can change; verify them before purchasing. They are not directly comparable unit prices: Urlbox lists render counts, while Browserless charges browser-time units.
| Service and plan | Published price and allowance | Metering detail |
|---|---|---|
| Urlbox Lo-Fi | $19/month; up to 2,000 renders | Render-count plans. Prices exclude VAT. Business and Enterprise options are also shown; plan details are on the Urlbox pricing page. |
| Urlbox Hi-Fi | $49/month; up to 5,000 renders | |
| Urlbox Ultra | $99/month; up to 15,000 renders | |
| Browserless Free | $0/month; 1,000 units/month | One unit is a block of browser time of up to 30 seconds per browser connection; longer-running automations use additional units. The page also lists overage rates for paid tiers. See the Browserless pricing page. |
| Browserless Prototyping | $25/month, billed annually; 20,000 units/month | |
| Browserless Starter | $140/month, billed annually; 180,000 units/month | |
| Browserless Scale | $350/month, billed annually; 500,000 units/month |
Browserless also lists custom-priced Enterprise service. For a realistic estimate, count successful renders, expected retries, browser-session duration, concurrency, and any output requirements. In particular, a short screenshot call and a longer browser automation do not consume Browserless units in the same way. Urlbox’s render allowance and Browserless’s time-based units should not be treated as equivalent quotas.
Deployment, regions, and endpoints
Browserless documents shared cloud fleets with regional endpoints and private deployments with account-specific endpoints. Use the endpoint instructions for your own deployment rather than assuming a shared-cloud URL applies everywhere; see Browserless connection URLs. Browserless also documents cloud and Docker self-hosting options in its overview.

The reviewed Urlbox materials describe hosted API options and mention enterprise and on-premise language, but do not establish the terms for a particular data-residency or infrastructure requirement. Confirm those details directly with Urlbox before choosing it for a workload with strict deployment constraints: Urlbox product page.
Test before choosing
Documentation identifies available controls, not which service will capture your particular pages best. Before committing, run the same representative URLs through the modes you expect to use and inspect the output for:
- Lazy-loaded images and content that appears only after scrolling.
- Sticky headers, fixed buttons, animations, and long-page stitching artifacts.
- Selector matches that are missing, repeated, or hidden at the chosen viewport.
- The image format, dimensions, and clipping behavior your application requires.
- Response time and failure handling under your expected concurrency and retry policy.
For Browserless, include browser-connection duration in your cost estimate. For Urlbox, compare the render volume with the relevant plan allowance. Current quotas, endpoints, and terms are vendor-controlled and can change.

ScreenshotNeo as an alternative to try first
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts one GET request with a URL and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before capture it accepts cookie or consent banners as a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; individual cleanup steps can be disabled. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed. AI agents can use its MCP server tools, including take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Browserless support Playwright as well as Puppeteer?
Yes. Browserless documents managed browser connections for both Puppeteer and Playwright.
Best Value
Can Urlbox capture a specific element rather than the whole page?
Yes. Urlbox documents selector-based element screenshots.
Do the published prices establish which service is cheaper for every screenshot workload?
No. Urlbox lists render-count plans, while Browserless meters browser time in units; the cost depends on the workload and plan terms.
