First, verify which Chrome extension you mean. The Urlbox materials available here document Urlbox’s screenshot-rendering service and API, but do not confirm a Urlbox-published Chrome extension or a specific extension bug that produces blank images. If a browser extension took the image locally, troubleshoot that extension; if a Urlbox render or API request produced it, check page readiness and full-page capture settings.
Identify the extension and where the screenshot was made
Check the extension’s exact Chrome Web Store name, publisher, and version. Do not assume an extension is official or made by Urlbox unless its listing or publisher confirms the relationship.

Next, establish whether the screenshot was captured by an extension in your browser or generated through a Urlbox render link or API request. For a local extension capture, the extension publisher’s documentation and version history are the relevant sources. The Urlbox rendering options below apply to Urlbox-generated images; they are troubleshooting checks, not a verified fix for an unidentified extension.
An Atarim support page describes an Atarim extension used in an integration where URLBox screenshots encounter access restrictions. That is an integration-specific case, not evidence that Urlbox publishes the extension you are using: Atarim’s instructions.

Check readiness and selector waits in Urlbox renders
A page can load its initial document before the content you want to capture appears. In Urlbox, inspect the configured wait_until navigation condition and any wait_for or wait_to_leave selector conditions. Confirm that the selector matches an element on the target page and that the wait reflects when the content is actually ready. Urlbox documents that a selector wait can time out and still allow a screenshot by default; failure flags can instead make a missing or persistent selector explicit. See the Urlbox options documentation.
If a render is blank, compare the actual page state with the requested wait condition rather than assuming the extension itself caused the problem. A selector that never appears, or a capture taken before client-rendered content arrives, can make the result incomplete. The available documentation does not establish either as the cause of a particular blank extension screenshot.
Check full-page capture mode and scrolling
Urlbox scrolls to the bottom by default during full-page captures to trigger lazy-loaded elements and determine scrollable height. Its default stitch mode captures sections as it scrolls and is documented as the more reliable option for accuracy. Native mode uses browser-native full-page capture; it is faster, but may not work well on every site. Compare both modes on the affected page rather than treating either as a universal fix. Details are in the Urlbox options documentation.
- If images or other content load only when scrolled into view, check that the capture scrolls far enough and that the page has time to update. Smaller scroll increments or a longer delay may help on pages with lazy loading or animation.
- If a stitched image repeats sticky headers or floating controls, that can be a side effect of capturing a page in sections. It is a layout-quality issue, not proof of a blank-image defect. Urlbox’s older full-page screenshot guide also notes that Chrome DevTools full-page captures may miss lazy-loaded images if the page is not scrolled first.
Use a focused troubleshooting sequence
- Record the product details. Note the extension’s listing name, publisher, version, affected page URL, and whether the page renders normally in Chrome.
- Separate local capture from service rendering. If the extension captures the active tab, consult its publisher’s support materials. If a Urlbox render link or API request generated the image, use the Urlbox settings and diagnostics described above.
- Match the wait to the page. For Urlbox, review the navigation wait and selector conditions; check whether the expected selector exists and whether a timeout should fail the render instead of proceeding.
- Compare full-page modes where relevant. Try stitch and native capture on the same page, and inspect whether lazy content, animation, or sticky elements change during scrolling.
- Test whether the failure is isolated. As practical diagnostic steps—not Urlbox requirements—check whether the same extension behaves differently on another page, whether restarting Chrome changes the result, and whether the page itself displays properly before capture.
- Escalate with identifying evidence. For a Urlbox-generated image, send support the render link or API options, resulting image URL, and request ID. For an extension-specific failure, include its exact listing and version, the affected URL, what you observe, and whether the page itself renders normally. Urlbox’s support page lists chat, email, and call options.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot of a public URL rather than a diagnosis of a particular Chrome extension, ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API with a one-call request. It removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. It also provides an MCP server so AI agents can take screenshots.
Example using cURL (replace the URL with the page you want to capture):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for free.
