First check the same page in a normal browser. If its fonts look wrong there too, the issue is likely with the site’s font rules or font files. If the browser looks right but URL2PNG’s screenshot does not, investigate when the capture happens and whether URL2PNG is returning a cached image. Web fonts load asynchronously, so a screenshot taken too early can show fallback text or temporarily invisible text.
Separate a page font problem from a screenshot timing problem
- Open the exact target URL in a normal browser at roughly the same viewport as the URL2PNG capture. Wait for the page to settle, then check the expected font family, weight, and characters.
- Compare the browser view and screenshot. If both are wrong, start with the page’s CSS and font resources. If only the screenshot is wrong, check capture timing, cache state, and differences in viewport or user agent.
- Change one variable at a time and capture again. Keep the URL, viewport, user agent, readiness point, delay, and cache state in view so the comparison is useful.
This distinction matters because browsers can render fallback text—or hide text briefly—while a web font is loading. Google’s guidance describes differences in font behavior during loading (Google Fonts technical considerations), and WebKit documents font loading and the CSS Font Loading API (Improved Font Loading).
Check whether the page’s font files are working
If the font is missing in the normal browser too, inspect the page before changing URL2PNG settings:
- Review the relevant
@font-facerules and confirm the declared family and weight match the styles applied to the text. - In the browser’s network panel, find the font requests. Check that each URL resolves and returns a usable resource rather than an error.
- Check whether a
unicode-rangedeclaration excludes the characters that appear broken. - Verify that the page is not requesting a different weight or family from the one that loaded.
A longer capture delay cannot repair an invalid font URL, an unusable response, or a CSS declaration that selects the wrong font. If you maintain the page, review its font-loading presentation and make sure fallback typography is acceptable. Chrome documents the font-display property and text visibility during web-font loading (Ensure text remains visible during webfont load). For critical font resources, preload may help when delivery is the cause of late arrival; see web.dev’s guide to optimizing WebFont loading and rendering.

Wait for the page to be ready in URL2PNG
URL2PNG’s Quickstart Guide documents two relevant approaches: a fixed delay after document readiness, and say_cheese, which waits for a specified DOM element. Use a readiness signal when the page can reliably indicate that the font is ready. Otherwise, test a measured delay and compare the result.
- Prefer a reliable readiness marker: have the page expose the specified element only after the state you need is ready. A generic marker that appears before the font loads will not solve the timing problem.
- Use a delay as a diagnostic: try a suitable delay after readiness and see whether the same capture changes. A fixed wait is less robust than a signal tied to the actual ready state.
- Do not treat waiting as a font fix: if the resource cannot be fetched or the page selects the wrong font, waiting longer will not correct it.
The exact parameter syntax and accepted values are documented in URL2PNG’s guide; follow that documentation for your request format rather than assuming another screenshot service uses identical behavior.

Rule out a cached screenshot
If a capture still shows the old font state after the page or timing configuration changes, check whether URL2PNG is reusing an earlier image. Its documentation describes ttl for screenshot cache lifetime and unique for forcing a fresh screenshot (URL2PNG Quickstart Guide). Use the documented fresh-capture control when testing, then compare against the cached result. Avoid changing cache settings and timing together; otherwise, you will not know which change affected the image.
Common causes and what to do
| What you see | Likely area to investigate | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The browser and URL2PNG both show the wrong font | Page CSS, font URL, font response, family or weight selection, or character coverage | Inspect the font rules and network requests in the browser. |
| The browser looks right after settling, but the screenshot uses a fallback font | Capture may occur before font loading completes | Test URL2PNG’s say_cheese readiness option or a measured delay. |
| The screenshot does not change after a page or setting change | A prior capture may be reused from cache | Check ttl and use the documented unique option for a fresh capture. |
| Only some characters or weights look wrong | Font-face weight or family mismatch, or a relevant unicode-range |
Inspect the declarations and confirm the requested font resource covers those characters and styles. |
| A longer wait makes no difference | The font may be inaccessible, invalid, or not selected by the page’s CSS | Check the browser’s font request and page declarations; delay alone cannot repair these problems. |

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its capture flow accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor, then removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses report the page verdict and billing status in headers. AI agents can use its MCP server tools, including take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.

Can a screenshot show fallback text even if the site eventually loads its web font?
Yes. Web-font loading is asynchronous, so a capture made before the font finishes loading can show fallback or temporarily invisible text.
