Ukraine has begun final tests of Aura-Ukraine’s Aura 3K mini, an electronic-warfare (EW) system intended to protect heavy bomber drones from FPV attacks. The reported design pairs two broadband jammers with a claim that it can disrupt incoming drones without interrupting the protected aircraft’s Starlink link. Those are specifications and performance claims attributed to Dignitas Fund—not independently confirmed test results. As of 3 October 2026, the report says testing is ongoing; it does not confirm a successful outcome, operational deployment or mass production.

What is the Aura 3K mini?

Aura 3K mini is a reported 2.4-kilogram EW unit developed by Ukrainian defence company Aura-Ukraine with Dignitas Fund. Ukrainska Pravda reported on 3 October 2026 that the system is designed to protect heavy bomber drones against Russian FPV drones.

Dignitas Fund describes the unit as using two broadband jammers operating across 2.1–2.8 GHz to provide 360-degree coverage. The same source says it can jam FPV drones without disrupting the bomber’s Starlink communications. These are attributed design and capability claims, not independently verified performance findings. Ukrainska Pravda’s report says Aura-Ukraine has begun final tests.

How is the system meant to protect a bomber drone?

Disrupt the incoming FPV threat

The stated purpose of the jammers is to interfere with the control or communications links used by approaching FPV drones. The reported 360-degree coverage is intended to protect from threats around the aircraft, rather than from one direction alone. The report does not provide independent measurements showing how reliably or at what distance the Aura 3K mini defeats an FPV drone.

Preserve the bomber’s own link

A jammer carried by a drone must avoid disrupting the communications its own operator relies on. Dignitas Fund says the Aura 3K mini can target the threat without interrupting the protected drone’s Starlink link. The current report does not establish that this effect has been independently demonstrated in operational conditions.

Limit emissions when there is no detected threat

Dignitas Fund says automatic threat-triggered activation is planned. The intended logic is to switch on the system only when a threat is detected, rather than emit continuously, which could reveal the bomber’s position. Automatic operation is described as a plan, not a confirmed fielded feature.

Has Aura 3K mini passed testing or entered production?

No successful final-test result is reported. The next stated step was testing the system’s radiation pattern at the front. The press service, as quoted by Ukrainska Pravda, said: “Testing of the system’s radiation pattern will begin at the front in the coming days.” The report says mass production depends on successful final tests; it does not say production has started.

The report also says adaptation for Vampire-type bomber drones is planned. That is not confirmation that the system has been validated on Vampire aircraft, or on ground robots. Although the headline mentions ground robots, the detailed reporting concerns heavy bomber drones and does not establish testing or operational use on unmanned ground vehicles.

How this fits into Ukraine’s broader bomber-drone protection efforts

Ukraine has reported other bomber-drone trials and protection work, but those programs are separate from Aura 3K mini’s tests.

March trials: bomber performance under EW interference

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence said on 30 March 2026 that 18 teams took part in trials of new-generation bomber drones at a Brave1 testing ground. The ministry reported that each tested drone flew as far as 20 kilometres under EW interference, struck a target and returned safely. It described heavy bombers as platforms for carrying tens of kilograms for attacks on armour and fortifications, as well as logistics missions. These results concern the ministry’s trials, not Aura 3K mini. The Ministry of Defence’s account quotes Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov saying, “Bombers are a Ukrainian innovation that has become indispensable on the battlefield. They destroy infantry, equipment, fortifications and assist with frontline logistics,”

August trials: layered protection against interceptor drones

Ukrinform reported on 14 August 2026 that the Armed Forces had conducted separate trials of protection systems for reusable bomber-type strike UAVs across six Ukrainian platforms. The approach described by Colonel Vladyslav Voloshyn combined lower visibility, threat detection, crew warnings, electronic countermeasures and physical protection. Onboard electronic-intelligence and EW systems were tested to detect interceptor UAVs, identify their control and data-transmission channels, and counter them. These were broad platform trials, not evidence of Aura-Ukraine’s system performance. Ukrinform’s report describes those trials.

What is still unknown

  • Whether Aura 3K mini passes final testing or achieves the claimed effect in operational use.
  • Whether mass production has begun, and how many systems might be produced or acquired.
  • The system’s price and procurement terms.
  • Whether the reported Starlink compatibility and 360-degree protection hold under field conditions.
  • Whether it has been tested on Vampire-type drones or unmanned ground vehicles.
  • Whether it is available to civilian buyers; the reporting describes a military system in testing, not a retail product.
