Ubisoft has proposed closing its Helsinki-based RedLynx studio, the team best known for the Trials motorcycle series, with up to 52 positions potentially affected. The announcement on October 14, 2026 is not a final closure: Finnish change negotiations must be completed before Ubisoft can make a legally final decision. Separately, Ubisoft said 70 positions at its Singapore studio were affected in a restructuring tied to upcoming production needs. Singapore was not announced for closure.

The two actions are part of Ubisoft’s wider effort to restore profitability after a reported €1.5 billion net loss in fiscal 2025–26. Ubisoft has also committed to at least €200 million in spending cuts over two years, following €300 million in earlier targeted savings.

Is RedLynx actually closing or is it only a proposal?

RedLynx is not legally closed yet. Ubisoft said it had informed employees of “a proposal to close RedLynx in Finland,” and the plan is subject to Finland’s mandatory change-negotiation process.

That process requires qualifying employers to negotiate proposed changes affecting jobs before a final decision is made. As a result, Ubisoft has not announced a definitive closure date or final number of redundancies. The proposal could affect up to 52 positions, but the eventual outcome may change during negotiations.

What happens during the Finnish negotiations?

Employee representatives and the company discuss the proposed restructuring, its effects and possible alternatives. Only after that process can Ubisoft confirm whether the studio will close, whether some roles will remain, and when any employment changes take effect.

How many Ubisoft jobs are being cut in Singapore?

Ubisoft said 70 positions at Ubisoft Singapore were affected. Unlike the RedLynx announcement, this was described as a downsizing and restructuring action rather than a studio closure.

The company said the Singapore changes are intended to align the studio with upcoming production needs and stressed that it “remains an important part of Ubisoft’s global production organisation.” The statement does not identify a single game as the cause of the reductions or specify how many employees will remain.

Why are the two studios being treated differently?

Ubisoft’s statements describe different operating roles and different business decisions. RedLynx was not assigned to a new project, while Singapore is being resized to support future production across Ubisoft’s network.

Why is Ubisoft proposing to shut down the Trials developer?

VGC reported that RedLynx had not been assigned a new project and that simply making the studio smaller would not make it sustainable. Ubisoft placed RedLynx in its central Creative Network, but its current project pipeline was not described as sufficient to support the studio.

The decision sits within a company-wide profitability programme. CNA reported Ubisoft’s €1.5 billion net loss for fiscal 2025–26, while the company has outlined at least €200 million in cuts over two years and previously targeted €300 million in savings. Those figures explain the financial pressure surrounding the announcement, but they do not establish that any particular Trials game was cancelled.

What happened to the RedLynx Trials studio?

RedLynx was founded in Helsinki in 2000. Ubisoft acquired it in 2011 after the success of Trials 2 and Trials HD, making the studio a long-running part of the publisher’s racing and action portfolio.

VGC lists later entries in the series as Trials Evolution, Trials Frontier, Trials Fusion, Trials of the Blood Dragon and Trials Rising. RedLynx also supported The Division 2, worked on the mobile title Gwen’s Getaway and contributed to the Switch 2 port of Star Wars Outlaws.

What does Ubisoft Singapore do?

Founded in 2008, Ubisoft Singapore became part of Ubisoft’s Southeast Asian production network. The studio has supported most Assassin’s Creed games and led Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and Skull and Bones.

Game Developer described Singapore’s role as increasingly focused on supporting other Ubisoft teams. That support-oriented position helps explain why Ubisoft is restructuring the studio rather than proposing to close it outright.

Did AI cause the Ubisoft Singapore layoffs?

There is no disclosed evidence that AI caused the Singapore job cuts. Ubisoft’s statement attributes the action to upcoming production needs, and The Straits Times reported expert views linking it to financial performance and the company’s reorganisation announced in January.

Allan Simonsen, a former local International Game Developers Association coordinator and Boomzap co-founder, told The Straits Times that Ubisoft was “tightening their belt across the company.” That is an outside assessment of the broader cost-cutting programme, not a Ubisoft claim that AI replaced the affected roles.

What support is available to affected workers?

In Singapore, NTUC’s e2i, the Skills and Workforce Development Agency, the Ministry of Manpower and the Creative Media and Publishing Union are providing or coordinating assistance. Reported measures include career coaching, job matching, skills-upgrading advice and transition support.

The Creative Media and Publishing Union said workers should be treated fairly and with dignity, taking into account the effect retrenchment can have on employees and their families. The support described applies to the Singapore process; RedLynx employees are covered by the Finnish negotiation framework instead.

What should players and employees watch next?

The next material update for RedLynx is Ubisoft’s decision after Finnish negotiations. Until then, the studio’s closure remains a proposal, and Ubisoft has not published a final closure date or final redundancy total.

For Singapore, the key issue is how the 70 affected positions change the studio’s staffing and which productions it will support. Ubisoft’s public wording indicates continued operations, but it has not provided a detailed project-by-project staffing plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

How large was Ubisoft Singapore before the 2026 cuts?
