Here are the 18 LinkedIn groups listed by KDnuggets in its June 1, 2022 directory, ranked by the member counts reported in that article. Those figures are historical—not verified current totals. Check LinkedIn for each group’s current name, activity, access and rules before applying.

What the 2022 list can—and cannot—tell you

KDnuggets published Abid Ali Awan’s directory on June 1, 2022. It presents groups as places to exchange ideas, seek guidance, learn about research and technology, share tutorials and network. The membership figures below are those the article reported; it does not give a separate measurement date. They should not be read as present-day counts or as independently audited figures.

The directory gives a useful starting point for finding communities by subject, but its figures establish scale only. They do not demonstrate that joining improves learning, hiring or career outcomes. The 2022 article also noted that some groups were highly moderated and that approval could take up to a month for some groups; those observations are not confirmation of any group’s current rules or processing time.

How to choose a group that fits your needs

  1. Start with your subject. For broad discussion, look at the general data science, AI and machine-learning names. For a narrower focus, the list includes groups naming Python, natural language processing, visualization, decision science, business analysis and careers, as well as Women in Data Science.
  2. Check whether the group is active. Open its LinkedIn page and look for recent, substantive discussions rather than judging by the historical member count alone.
  3. Read the rules and admission details. Check whether the group is open or requires approval, what its moderators permit, and whether its rules suit the kind of questions or contributions you want to make.
  4. Set realistic expectations. Treat a group as a potential place to discuss and connect, not as a guaranteed source of instruction, employment or career advancement.
