If official Windows XP driver support is your priority, the GeForce GTX 980 Ti is the more defensible choice: NVIDIA’s Windows XP 368.81 driver page lists it as supported. NVIDIA’s TITAN Xp user guide lists Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Linux, and FreeBSD, but not Windows XP. That difference establishes which card has documented XP support; it does not establish which one runs a particular XP game faster.
Which card has official Windows XP driver support?
The GTX 980 Ti appears in NVIDIA’s 368.81 driver listing for Windows XP. This is evidence that NVIDIA provided an XP driver listing for the card, not a guarantee that every game or PC configuration will work without issues.
The TITAN Xp user guide lists Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Linux, and FreeBSD as supported operating systems; it does not list Windows XP. NVIDIA’s documentation therefore does not establish official XP support for TITAN Xp. This does not prove that the card cannot be made to work with a modified driver; that possibility is not established by the cited documentation.
NVIDIA’s later 381.65 Windows 10 driver listing includes both TITAN Xp and GTX 980 Ti, but support on Windows 10 does not change the XP support picture. NVIDIA also states that Windows XP was deprecated in Release 370.xx for non-legacy GeForce Game Ready drivers in its OS-support article.

Do the specifications show which card is faster in XP games?
No. NVIDIA publishes TITAN Xp reference specifications of 3,840 CUDA cores, 12 GB GDDR5X memory, a 384-bit memory interface, 547.7 GB/s memory bandwidth, and 250 W graphics-card power. NVIDIA notes that add-in-card specifications can vary. These figures describe hardware, but they are not a controlled Windows XP game benchmark and do not establish a frame-rate advantage in any specific title.
No controlled, reproducible game-by-game XP comparison between these exact cards is established here. To rank them for a particular game, a useful benchmark would need to identify the game and version, resolution and settings, driver package, CPU, and operating-system configuration. Without that evidence, a percentage lead or a general gaming-performance winner would be guesswork.

- WINDFORCE cooling system
What power supply does the TITAN Xp require?
NVIDIA’s TITAN Xp User Guide specifies a minimum 600 W system power supply and one 6-pin plus one 8-pin PCIe power connector. Treat these as the card’s stated requirements, not a complete recommendation for every build: account for the rest of the system, the condition of an aging PSU, and the exact card’s connectors before installation.

Which one should you choose for a Windows XP build?
- Choose the GTX 980 Ti if official, documented Windows XP driver support is the deciding factor. It is named on NVIDIA’s XP 368.81 driver page.
- Do not choose TITAN Xp on the assumption that it has official XP support. The cited user guide does not list XP, and the available XP driver evidence does not establish support for it.
- Choose based on a named game only when you can verify relevant testing. The TITAN Xp’s larger published specifications do not substitute for XP game benchmarks.
