To add language selection to TinyMCE 8 code samples, enable its codesample plugin and configure codesample_languages. Line numbers and a per-code-block copy button are separate additions: Prism documents plugins for both, but their behavior depends on how the editor’s output is rendered and must be verified in your deployment. TinyMCE’s own toolbar copy button copies the current editor selection, not a particular code block.
What “language” means in TinyMCE 8
In “TinyMCE 8 with Line Number Language and Copy Button,” language can mean either the programming-language choice attached to a code sample or the language used for content localization. These are separate features. The Code Sample dialog’s programming-language menu is configured with codesample_languages; TinyMCE’s language content control formats selected content using configured language tags. The editor-interface language is another distinct setting. See TinyMCE’s content localization options.
Add a programming-language selector for code samples
TinyMCE’s codesample plugin inserts syntax-colored code snippets through a dialog and toolbar control. A minimal configuration enables the plugin and places its control on the toolbar:

});The language list is configurable; include the languages your authors need and use Prism language values for the corresponding highlighting. TinyMCE’s Code Sample plugin documentation describes the option and its syntax.
Make code samples syntax-highlighted
TinyMCE’s Code Sample guide says Prism.js and prism.css need to be present on the page for syntax highlighting. The plugin can use a global Prism installation with codesample_global_prismjs; its default is false. When enabling that option, load Prism and any required language add-ons alongside TinyMCE:

});This is a choice about which Prism installation the editor uses, not an automatic guarantee that any additional Prism plugin will work in every rendering path. Confirm that the Prism scripts and styles are available where the saved or published code is actually displayed.
Add line numbers with Prism
Line numbers are not configured by codesample_languages. Prism documents line numbering as a separate plugin for block code. Its mechanism is to add the line-numbers class to the relevant pre element or an ancestor, and load the Prism line-numbers plugin script and stylesheet:

</code></pre>The class applies to code blocks, not inline code. Prism also documents no-line-numbers to disable numbering for a subtree, data-start to change the starting number, and white-space: pre-line or pre-wrap for numbering when lines soft-wrap. See Prism’s Line Numbers documentation.
The important integration check is the rendered markup: verify that the final output contains the pre structure and classes Prism expects, and that the plugin assets run on that output. TinyMCE and Prism document these pieces separately; the documentation does not establish a universal TinyMCE 8 integration guarantee.

Choose the right copy behavior
TinyMCE’s toolbar copy control copies the current editor selection. It is a general editing action, not a documented per-code-block button. If authors need to copy a whole code sample with a button attached to that block, Prism separately lists a Copy to Clipboard Button plugin in its plugin index.
That distinction matters: enabling TinyMCE’s copy toolbar button does not add a copy affordance beside each code sample. For a Prism-based block button, test the complete path in your own editor and display setup, including the final markup and loaded plugin assets. The available product documentation describes the features individually rather than guaranteeing how every TinyMCE 8 deployment combines them.

Select a TinyMCE 8 release path
Tiny Cloud’s quick start uses a versioned CDN script path with no-api-key as a placeholder; replace it with your account API key. TinyMCE documents paths for a release channel such as 8, as well as minor- and patch-version paths, and also describes 8-testing and 8-dev channels. Channel and version availability can change, so check the current TinyMCE version documentation when choosing between automatic channel updates and a pinned release.
