Kigetsu: Night of the Waning Moon is coming to Steam, and its free Windows demo is available now. Edia announced the Steam version on October 16, 2026. The complete game remains listed as Coming soon; Steam and Edia have not announced a release date or price.
Is Kigetsu: Night of the Waning Moon on Steam now?
The demo is on Steam now as a separate, free Windows app. The full game has a Steam listing for wishlisting and following, but it cannot yet be purchased or downloaded as a finished release.

Edia is both the developer and publisher. The company’s announcement identifies the English Steam title as Kigetsu: Night of the Waning Moon, while the Japanese title is 虧月の夜.
What kind of game is Kigetsu?
Kigetsu is a time-leap survival horror adventure set in an isolated rural village during the darkness of Japan’s early Showa era. It combines visual-novel presentation, investigation and branching choices with the pressure of surviving a hostile, closed community.

The protagonist has been reincarnated into the modern era but becomes trapped in the past after a gruesome tragedy. Each death sends the character back to the same timeframe. Progress therefore comes from information: conversations, relationships, village customs and discovered secrets remain meaningful even when a particular attempt ends.
A village built around suspicion
The story focuses on a community whose traditions conceal dangerous motives. A major thread involves twins regarded as an omen of bad luck. Steam describes their bond as a twisted relationship of love and hate that is broken by a major event, placing their history at the center of the mystery.
Is it a visual novel or survival horror?
It is both, but neither label tells the whole story. Its text, choices and relationship building fit a visual novel or choose-your-own-adventure structure, while repeated deaths, a trapped protagonist and an isolated setting supply the survival-horror framework. Steam also tags it as Adventure, 2D, Historical, Alternate History, Controller, Text-Based and Singleplayer.

How does the time-loop mechanic work?
The loop is triggered by death rather than by a voluntary reset. The protagonist returns to the same period with knowledge gathered from the previous attempt, allowing later choices to reflect clues, relationships and patterns that were invisible before.
- Investigate the village: talk to residents and observe local customs.
- Follow relationships: choices reveal how villagers, including the twins, are connected.
- Reach a fatal outcome: death ends that attempt and returns the protagonist to the loop’s timeframe.
- Use what you learned: select different actions and conversations to expose secrets and pursue a way back to the modern world.
The official material presents this as knowledge-driven progression, not a conventional system of accumulating weapons or statistics. The objective is to understand the tragedy, identify the true culprit’s motives and find a route through the repeating crisis.
What is the “30-Murder Case” in Kigetsu?
The phrase refers to the murder mystery at the heart of the game’s story, but the public Steam description does not yet provide a verified count of victims, a timeline or a complete explanation of the case. It does establish a gruesome tragedy, a village hiding secrets and a protagonist who must use repeated deaths to uncover what happened.

Until Edia publishes more story information, descriptions of the case should be treated as plot setup rather than a solved chronology. The demo may introduce the investigation, but its contents should not be assumed to reveal the full culprit or ending of the finished game.

Does Kigetsu support English?
Yes. The Steam version supports English and Japanese for its interface and subtitles. Steam does not list a full audio language, so the confirmed language support is text-based rather than a promise of English or Japanese voice acting.
The demo carries the same English and Japanese interface and subtitle support and offers full controller support. It is designed for one player.

Is Kigetsu connected to a real historical murder case?
No official description identifies a real-world case as its source. The game uses an early-Showa setting and historical atmosphere, but its village, loop and murder mystery are presented as fictional story elements.
