For an automated capture workflow, choose based on the controls your pages need, how you will arrange recurrence, and current plan terms. Screenshot Machine documents a broader set of device and page-interaction options; Thumbalizr documents plan-dependent capture controls and publishes screenshot allowances and prices. What each service does—and does not—schedule
The official API pages for both products describe taking a screenshot in response to an API request. They do not describe a native recurring schedule. A cron job, cloud scheduler, or other external automation can repeat those requests, but that is an implementation approach rather than a documented built-in feature. Which one should you choose?
Choose Screenshot Machine when page behavior matters
Its documented parameters give you options for device profiles, full-page height, cache age, delay, zoom, cookies, selector clicks, language, user agent, element selection, and cropping. That may suit pages where the screenshot depends on a particular viewport or interaction. The documentation recommends a longer delay for some full-page sites with images or animations; tune it for the page rather than assuming a single delay works everywhere.
Choose Thumbalizr when its plan and capture controls fit
Thumbalizr documents JPG and PNG output, browser dimensions, screen or full-page sizing, delay, and a country setting. Its response status headers can help an integration distinguish queued, completed, and failed captures. Compare the workload, not just one request
For a scheduled workflow, estimate the number of URLs and runs, then check current request limits, account terms, and whether the external scheduler’s retry behavior fits your needs. A request that repeats every day can consume a monthly allowance quickly if it covers many pages. The available documentation does not establish relative uptime or capture quality, so it is not a basis for ranking operational reliability.

Thumbalizr’s feature page, accessed in 2026, lists the following allowances and monthly prices. These are vendor-published terms that can change; verify them on the live page before buying. The page says subscriptions may be monthly or one-time payments.

How to build recurrence around either API
The exact request syntax and authentication differ by service, so use the provider’s current API documentation for a complete request example. At a high level, the external job should make a capture request at the chosen interval, store the resulting image, and record whether the capture succeeded. For Thumbalizr, inspect the documented queued, completed, or failed response status; for either service, handle the API’s current error responses according to its documentation.

- Choose a cadence and list of URLs. Work out the expected monthly volume as pages multiplied by runs. Leave room for manual reruns or retries within the account’s current allowance.
- Create an external scheduled task. Configure cron or another automation service to run a script at the required times. This is the orchestration layer; neither reviewed API guide documents recurrence as a native feature.
- Call the capture API. Set the URL, output and dimensions, and any cache or refresh control needed to ensure the result is appropriately fresh.
- Persist and monitor results. Store the returned screenshot and log the requested URL, run time, response status, and failure details. Avoid treating a queued request as a completed capture.
- Test representative pages. Check pages with long content, delayed images, animations, consent dialogs, or interactions before relying on a production schedule.
