The short version: Windows 12 was not confirmed by the rumors discussed, while “Copilot is live” referred to several distinct products with different rollout and availability dates—not one feature reaching everyone at once.
What the December 2023 episode covered
The This Week in IT episode was published on December 8, 2023. Its description says it discusses what might be in store for Windows 12, Bing Chat becoming Microsoft Copilot, Copilot availability, Windows 10 support, and other IT news. That date matters: its Windows 12 discussion is historical speculation, not a current Microsoft announcement. Episode details
Windows 12: rumors, not a confirmed release
The episode’s Windows 12 material should be read as rumor and speculation from late 2023. The evidence does not establish a Windows 12 release date, official feature list, or installation path. A Microsoft-hosted Q&A response dated September 2026 says Microsoft had made no official Windows 12 announcement; because that is a community answer rather than a formal product roadmap, it is best treated as an indication—not a definitive corporate statement. Microsoft Q&A: “when will Windows 12 come out to the world”
So, if you are asking when Windows 12 will come out, the responsible answer from the available information is that no official release date is established. Do not treat reported possibilities as confirmed Windows features or plans.

What “Microsoft Copilot is live” meant in 2023
Microsoft used the Copilot name across multiple products, and their 2023 milestones were different. Microsoft’s September 21 announcement described Copilot as an experience spanning Windows 11, Microsoft 365, Edge, and Bing. It said the initial Copilot in Windows experience would begin rolling out on September 26 as part of a free Windows 11 update. Separately, Microsoft 365 Copilot was scheduled to become generally available to enterprise customers on November 1, 2023. Microsoft’s September 2023 Copilot announcement
In a November 15 announcement, Microsoft said Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise would become Microsoft Copilot. It said the service would come out of preview and become generally available starting December 1, 2023. Microsoft also described commercial data protection for users signed into Copilot in Bing, Edge, and Windows with a Microsoft Entra ID work identity. These terms applied to the eligible, signed-in commercial context—not automatically to every Copilot product or user. Microsoft’s November 2023 announcement

Microsoft’s September 25, 2026 announcement describes a newer Copilot app experience with Home, Code, and Autopilot capabilities. The announcement gives feature-specific availability qualifications; some capabilities, for example, are described as preview features for eligible subscribers later in 2026. That newer product context is separate from what the December 2023 episode meant by “Copilot is live.” Check Microsoft’s feature-level rollout language rather than assuming every capability is generally available.
