To complete Practicum in Advanced Alchemy in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, finish three favors for Gremist: retrieve pimpernel, make Skellige Spirit at an abandoned distillery, and help Fritjof perform a ritual. The favors can be done in any order. The pimpernel trail includes an optional choice about whether to fight a succubus; either route gets the flower.
Where to start the quest
Find Gremist at Gedyneith on Ard Skellig. He initially refuses to take Geralt as an apprentice, but agrees to consider it if Geralt completes three favors. You may encounter him directly, or receive the lead by asking about advanced alchemy; the guides also describe asking alchemists about a master alchemist.

The favors are order-flexible: retrieve pimpernel from Morskogen Forest, obtain spirit from the old distillery on Hail Hill, and recruit Fritjof near Blandare to help with a rite.
Favor 1: Find pimpernel and choose what to do about the succubus
Use Witcher Senses to follow the flower trail and investigate what happened to Gremist’s missing apprentice, Ramund. During the search, a druid tracker wants to kill the succubus. You can agree to fight her or refuse and follow her to her cave. The pimpernel is in the cave either way.

The available quest guides do not establish a material difference in the final ingredient reward between these routes.
Favor 2: Make Skellige Spirit at the distillery
Go to the abandoned distillery on Hail Hill. Clear the area and find the distilling instructions. Follow this sequence to produce the spirit:

- Put the mash into the evaporator.
- Light the evaporator’s fire.
- Operate the condenser levers in this order: right first, then left.
- Collect the Skellige Spirit from the barrel beside the condenser.
Favor 3: Help Fritjof with the ritual
Find Fritjof near Blandare and agree to help him cast a rain spell. Protect him from the foglets while the ritual is underway. GameBanshee’s guide identifies the foglets as level 23 and reports 80 XP for this stage; that level detail is guide-specific, not a guarantee about every player’s experience.

Once all three favors are complete, return to Gremist and Fritjof. They send Geralt away for 24 hours. Wait that long, return, and speak with Gremist to finish the quest.

Both GameBanshee and The Official Witcher Wiki list five each of Alcohest, Han Fiber, Saltpeter, and Sulfur as the ingredient reward. Their XP figures are presented differently: GameBanshee breaks the payout down as 80 XP for each favor and 80 XP for the final conversation, while The Official Witcher Wiki lists 240 XP for the quest overall. Treat these as different presentations of the total rather than evidence of an extra payout.
Gremist is available for purchases after the quest. Completing this task does not teach Geralt an alchemy recipe, according to GameBanshee.
