The free The Sims 4 base-game update released on October 27, 2026. It adds a Classic Elder Looks & Cozy Nooks collection, gives players separate controls for weight and muscle changes, overhauls food prices, calories and leftovers, expands Businesses & Hobbies Family Recipes to more than 375 existing dishes, and delivers a large set of dining, routing, stability and crash fixes. PC build 1.129.39.1030, Mac build 1.129.39.1230 and console version 2.40 are covered. Pack-specific changes still require the relevant expansion or game pack.
What was added in The Sims 4 October 2026 update?
EA describes this as a broad quality-of-life patch rather than a new gameplay pack. The publisher counts more than 150 bug fixes, including more than 25 Dine Out fixes and 14 new crash or assert fixes. Those are EA’s published totals, not independently audited measurements.

The patch applies to the base game and adjusts many packs. A pack must be owned for its pack-specific objects, recipes, venues or tuning to appear.

Create a Sim adds two hairstyles, four new clothing assets and five recolors.
- Hair: Quiff Side Part and Half-Down Waves.
- New clothing: Polo Shirt with Cardigan; Long Dress with Lace and Buttons; Sleeveless Blouse; Long Skirt with Pockets.
- Recolors: High Waisted Jacket; Long Blazer; Granny Dress; Open Cardigan; Loose Pants with Crease.
There are also four Elder Styled Looks, one Styled Room and a Gallery household containing the four modeled Sims. These are base-game items; where an asset’s age settings allow it, you can assign it to other life stages.
How do I turn off weight gain or muscle gain?
Use the two independent Game Options named Allow Weight Changes and Allow Muscle Changes to control these simulations for Sims throughout a save. You can disable one while leaving the other active.
- Open Game Options and go to the gameplay settings.
- Turn Allow Weight Changes and/or Allow Muscle Changes on or off.
- Apply the settings and return to the household.
For a single Sim, use that Sim’s Sim Physique self-interactions to disable or re-enable weight changes and muscle changes individually. These controls do not apply to Cats & Dogs pets or Horses.

Do not confuse the controls with two separate bug fixes: EA corrected extreme muscle gain from Free Weights in Adventure Awaits and extreme weight loss from Sword Fighting in Royalty & Legacy. Those fixes address abnormal tuning; the options let you choose whether normal changes are allowed.
What changed in the food and drink overhaul?
The refrigerator’s Open interaction is now at the front of its pie menu. EA also retuned prices and calories for every food and drink item in the base game and packs, aiming for more consistent values.
Leftovers now take priority
Hungry Sims are now more likely to choose leftovers in a refrigerator or on a counter instead of autonomously cooking a new meal. This reduces duplicate cooking and makes prepared food easier to use.

The Businesses & Hobbies Family Recipes system now accepts more than 375 pre-existing dishes from the base game and packs. A small number remain excluded for technical or fit reasons; EA gives graham crackers as an example. Businesses & Hobbies ownership is required for this feature.

Get to Work baking adjustment
With Get to Work, Quickly Decorate is available for baked goods that are not centered on a counter. The short animation is intended to avoid earlier routing failures.
Which everyday controls are new?
Restrict televisions by Sim category
Televisions can now be locked by Sim category. For example, a playroom television can be limited to children rather than available to every household member.
Find formerly scattered self-interactions
Previously uncategorized self-interactions are grouped under a Sim Options… pie-menu category. EA’s examples include Disable Attraction, Set Rock Paper Scissors Preference, Utensil Preference and Sim Physique.
More reliable Save Backup tracking
Save Backup tracking was recalculated to better handle players who go for long periods between sessions, so backup status is less likely to be misinterpreted after a lengthy absence.

What did the Dine Out fixes actually fix?
The Dine Out work targets customers, staff, food handling and venue stability. Pack ownership is required. Customers are less likely to abandon a meal to:
- Go jogging, view décor, dig in trash, hug, do University homework or follow Eco Lifestyle N.A.P. activities.
- Watch television, give mirror pep talks, react to celebrities, play paper airplanes or duel while dining.
Other Dine Out corrections cover waiter shifts and employee interactions, recipe-skill tuning, standing while eating, waiter dish cleanup, table footprints and a guardrail for restaurant Error Code 123:6346675a. EA also addressed toilet pranks, Snowy Escape menu ordering, business funds, Boba Tea presentation, staff uniforms, unconsumed food and drinks, weather-attire options and an unwanted Create a Sim switch when editing uniforms.
Which other pack and base-game bugs were addressed?
The patch also addresses a wide range of situations, with pack ownership needed where noted:
- Move Objects-related endless lot-placement loading, infinite white screens in certain saves, frozen Sims after naps or other interactions, routing freezes, and bartender orders made while the bartender is busy.
- Sims staying seated while eating, leaving dishes on dining tables or counters, dragging another Sim’s prepared food into a refrigerator, and avoiding inappropriate autonomous actions.
- Seasonal food-stall and grill behavior; Cottage Living Simple Living recipes; Horse Ranch nectar notifications; For Rent pressure-cooker and vegetarian moodlet behavior; Adventure Awaits scheduled dish cleaning; Outdoor Retreat horseshoe autonomy; and My Wedding Stories Tartosa food-stand inventory.
How extensive are the crash and stability fixes?
EA lists fixes for Windows signed-file crashes, lot-loading cursor and interface crashes, trait-incompatibility loads, EA app launch crashes, romance-story progression crashes, large Gallery-family uploads, a PlayStation main-menu network race, Eco Lifestyle window-placement asserts, Social Bunny reactions, Growing Together infant-carrier reloads and Royalty & Legacy household-transfer asserts.

Console-specific work includes a Gallery freeze lasting more than 20 seconds and a PlayStation Live-to-Build loading delay. EA says the decrease in crashes after September’s fixes was notable across platforms, but it does not publish a numeric percentage, so no precise reduction can be claimed.
What should players check after installing?
- Confirm that your launcher reports the platform build listed above.
- Open Game Options and set the weight and muscle permissions you want; they are separate switches.
- Check a refrigerator’s pie menu, a television’s category lock and the Sim Options… submenu.
- If you own Businesses & Hobbies, review Family Recipes and test eligible dishes from your installed packs.
- In a restaurant save, verify waiter shifts, table routing and customer behavior before making major venue edits.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the new Elder furniture with younger Sims?
Yes, the objects are base-game assets. Clothing and hairstyles follow their individual age permissions, so an item may be available to additional ages even though the collection is presented as Elder-focused.
Are the food calorie changes limited to recipes from the base game?
No. EA says the price and calorie tuning covers food and drink items across both the base game and packs, although owning a pack remains necessary to access its recipes.
