Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The headline refers to a pair of updates released on March 30, 2023: Naughty Dog’s game hotfix v1.0.1.5 and AMD’s Radeon Adrenalin 22.40.43.05 driver. Neither is the current update: the latest version in the official patch notes reviewed here is v1.1.5, dated July 3, 2025. The game has received substantial follow-up patches since 2023, so the old driver should not be treated as a current recommendation.
What the March 2023 updates were
The original report described two separate updates intended to address PC performance and stability concerns. Naughty Dog’s v1.0.1.5 was a game hotfix focused on stability and performance; AMD’s version 22.40.43.05 was a Radeon driver release with game-specific optimizations. HotHardware reported the paired release on March 30, 2023, while AMD’s official release notes list “Game Optimizations for The Last of Us™ Part 1.”

|---|---|---|
| Game hotfix | Naughty Dog, v1.0.1.5; March 30, 2023 | HotHardware described the hotfix as focused on stability and performance. No specific quantified gain is established by the cited record. |
| Radeon driver | AMD, Adrenalin 22.40.43.05; March 2023 | AMD listed game optimizations for The Last of Us Part I. Its release notes do not establish a measured FPS increase or guarantee a fix for every system. |
These are different update layers: the game patch changes the game, while the Radeon driver is software for supported AMD graphics hardware. An optimization listed by a publisher is not the same as a measured performance result.
What changed after the original hotfix
May 2023: game-side performance and loading work
Naughty Dog’s v1.0.5.0 patch notes, published May 9, 2023, later listed reduced shader-building times, global CPU performance optimization, performance work across levels, and improved level loading. These are later changes, not features that should be attributed to the March v1.0.1.5 hotfix. The May notes also said that AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.4.3 included a fix for longer-than-expected shader compilation time in the game.

July 2025: v1.1.5
The newest game version documented in the official patch notes reviewed here is v1.1.5, dated July 3, 2025. Naughty Dog lists various performance optimizations, crash fixes and stability improvements, improved audio on certain Steam Deck setups, and FSR 4 support for compatible Radeon GPUs. The notes also say that the displayed FSR version is now based on driver information. Read the v1.1.5 patch notes.

Which update should you install?
If you are playing now, use the game version available through your platform and check AMD’s official support page for a driver matching your specific Radeon GPU and operating system. The 22.40.43.05 release is a historical game-specific driver entry, not evidence that it is the latest or appropriate driver for your system. Driver versions and hardware support change over time.
FSR 4 support in v1.1.5 is explicitly limited to compatible Radeon GPUs; it does not mean every Radeon card supports the feature. Check AMD’s current compatibility information for the exact card before relying on FSR 4. The cited patch notes do not justify buying a new GPU or promise a particular frame-rate increase.

What the patch history does—and does not—promise
The official records show a sequence of game patches and driver-side optimization work, including later shader, CPU, loading, stability, and upscaling changes. They do not provide a dependable FPS percentage for the March hotfix or establish that these updates eliminate every PC problem. Results can depend on the system, game version, driver, and settings; a listed optimization is not a guarantee of a specific outcome.
