For TV and movies, start with Movie mode, then raise your model’s ClearDialog or Dialogue/Center control gradually until speech is easy to follow. Keep Bass and Subwoofer near their middle settings at first; add subwoofer level only after voices sound clear. There is no single numeric preset that works across every Vizio soundbar because controls and ranges vary by model.
Start with a balanced setup
Use this sequence as a listening baseline rather than a universal preset. Make changes while playing a familiar scene with both conversation and background sound, and adjust one control at a time so you can hear what each change does.
- Select Movie mode for television and films. Vizio describes it as optimized for theatrical movies.
- Make speech intelligible. Raise ClearDialog, or Dialogue/Center on models with those controls, a small step at a time. Stop when voices are distinct without sounding unnaturally prominent.
- Set the low end. Leave Bass and Subwoofer around the middle initially. If the sound is thin after speech is clear, raise Subwoofer gradually for deeper impact. Adjust Bass separately if the soundbar’s overall low-frequency balance still needs help.
- Recheck the scene at your usual listening volume. A setting that works during a quiet test may feel different at normal volume or with another program.
Control ranges and names differ. Use the manual for your exact soundbar model before copying a setting or following a remote-control sequence.

| Control | What it changes | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| ClearDialog | Voice clarity on supported app-controlled models. Vizio describes it as designed to keep voices clear when background sounds get loud. | Raise it gradually if speech is recessed. |
| Dialogue or Center | Speech-related adjustment found on some model families with remote controls. | Increase it one step at a time while listening to dialogue. |
| Bass | Low-frequency balance. | Adjust after speech is clear; reduce it if the low end seems to cover voices. |
| Subwoofer | Deep-bass intensity. | Raise it only until low-end impact returns without masking dialogue. |
| Treble | Higher-frequency balance. | Use sparingly if needed; too much can make voices or effects sound harsh. |
On many models, Bass and Subwoofer are separate adjustments. Some manuals also note that lowering bass changes a connected subwoofer, so the controls may interact on particular models. When speech is muddy, try reducing Bass or Subwoofer slightly before adding treble; that is practical listening guidance, not a manufacturer-wide preset.

Choose the right EQ mode for the source
| Mode | Best suited to | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Movie | Television and films | Vizio describes this mode as optimized for theatrical movies. It is a sensible starting point for general TV viewing. |
| Music | Music playback | Vizio describes it as fine-tuned for music. Try it when listening to music rather than assuming it is the best choice for dialogue-heavy TV. |
| Direct | Listening without added virtualization, on supported models | Vizio says it presents the source in its original form and removes virtualization. Try it if surround processing makes a mix sound unnatural. |
These modes are not interchangeable dialogue or bass sliders: choose one based on the source and how you want the sound processed, then tune the available level controls.
Use Night Mode and TruVolume for the right problem
Night Mode: reduce bass for quiet listening
Turn on Night Mode when you need to limit disturbance to sleeping family members or neighbors. Vizio says Night Mode reduces subwoofer output. That makes it a poor choice when maximum bass impact is the goal. On currently documented models, Night Mode turns off when the soundbar enters standby, so check its state when you resume listening.
TruVolume: smooth large loudness swings
TruVolume automatically reduces very loud sounds and increases very quiet ones to make levels more even. It can help when quiet dialogue is followed by loud effects, particularly at low listening volume. The trade-off is less variation between quiet and dramatic passages, so the result may feel less cinematic.

Adjust settings in the app or with the remote
Supported soundbars can pair with the VIZIO Mobile app, which exposes controls such as Bass, Treble, Height, and dialogue. Current Vizio manuals also document EQ modes, personalized sliders including ClearDialog and Subwoofer, and advanced options such as Night Mode, DTS Virtual:X, and TruVolume. Other or older model families may instead expose Dialogue, Center, Subwoofer, Bass, and Treble through the remote.
- Identify the exact soundbar model. Check its label or the device information available to you, then select that model’s manual. Do not assume another Vizio soundbar has the same menu labels or adjustment range.
- Use the control method your model supports. If it is app-compatible, pair it in VIZIO Mobile and open the soundbar’s available audio settings. If it uses remote controls, use the manual’s instructions for its EQ and level adjustments.
- Change one setting at a time. Play the same dialogue-heavy passage after each adjustment, and keep a note of the original setting so you can undo changes that make the sound worse.
If you cannot access settings because the original remote is missing, a compatible replacement remote may be needed: Vizio manuals document remote adjustment of EQ and, depending on model, bass, treble, dialogue, and subwoofer. Check compatibility with the specific soundbar before buying one.
Why bass can overpower speech—and how to correct it
- Too much Subwoofer: Lower Subwoofer a little, then replay the same dialogue passage. Raise it again only if the sound becomes too thin after speech is clear.
- Too much Bass: Reduce Bass slightly before compensating with more treble. Bass controls low-frequency balance; on some models, lowering bass also affects a connected subwoofer.
- Dialogue adjustment is too low: Increase ClearDialog or Dialogue/Center gradually if voices remain recessed after reducing excess low end.
- Processing does not suit the mix: Try Direct on supported models if virtualization sounds unnatural. If loud effects and quiet lines are the problem rather than bass balance, consider TruVolume.
- Room and placement change the result: The same setting can sound different in another room or position. Treat any numeric setting you see elsewhere as a starting point, not a guarantee.
Connection details if settings are unavailable
Some current Vizio 2.0 soundbar offerings list app or TV-remote control, Movie and Music modes, Dolby Atmos, DTS Virtual:X, and HDMI eARC. Those are product-page features, not guarantees that every Vizio model has them. If you plan to use HDMI eARC, verify that both the TV and soundbar have compatible ports before purchasing a cable. A connection feature does not replace model-specific instructions for changing audio settings.
