A browser proxy can open a website through a different server, which may help when a school, workplace, ISP, or regional network blocks direct access. It is not a complete privacy tool, does not route your whole device through the proxy, and cannot reliably defeat modern anti-bot or streaming restrictions.
The services below were checked on August 9, 2026. The article title refers to 2025, but proxy interfaces, locations, policies, and availability can change quickly.

1. hide.me Free Proxy
hide.me Free Proxy is the strongest general-purpose choice in this list when you want a location selector and visible privacy controls without creating an account.
On its Free Proxy page, enter the destination in Enter web address, choose the Netherlands, Germany, or Finland, and select Go. Optional controls let you allow or block cookies, encrypt the URL, encrypt the page, and remove scripts or objects.

Those controls can be useful, but they can also break websites. Removing scripts, for example, may prevent menus, login forms, video players, or other JavaScript-dependent features from working.
hide.me says its free proxy does not log online activity or personal IP addresses. Treat that as a provider policy claim rather than proof of anonymity. The company also recommends a VPN instead when you need protection for sensitive or device-wide traffic.
Use hide.me when
- You need to test a site from a European location.
- You want to adjust cookies, scripts, or page handling.
- You do not want to install software or create an account.
2. CroxyProxy
CroxyProxy is the most media-oriented option here. Its homepage accepts either a URL or a search query in Enter an URL or a search query to access. Click Go! to load the result through the proxy.
The page includes shortcuts to services such as DuckDuckGo, Google, YouTube, Facebook, Wikipedia, Reddit, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and Twitch. CroxyProxy advertises support for video and audio playback and does not require browser or operating-system configuration.

It states that necessary access logs may be kept for 60 days.
That makes CroxyProxy convenient for casual browsing, but it is a poor choice for private accounts, confidential research, or anything involving sensitive credentials.
3. ProxySite.com
ProxySite.com provides the most conventional proxy interface of the four. Select a server, enter the destination in Enter Url, and click Go.
The current interface lists US1 through US20 and EU1 through EU20. Having many choices can help if one shared IP range is blocked or overloaded, although changing servers is not guaranteed to solve an access problem.

ProxySite.com says traffic sent to its proxy uses an SSL connection. That protects the connection between your browser and the proxy, but it does not prevent the proxy operator from handling the request. Its privacy policy says public web-proxy logs are retained for 14 days and may include your IP address, browser type, ISP, timestamp, referring and exit pages, and click counts.
Do not describe ProxySite.com as a “no-logs” proxy. Its published policy does not support that claim.
4. VPNBook Web Proxy
VPNBook Web Proxy is a simple no-download, no-signup option. Paste a destination into Enter URL, select Random, US, UK, or Canada under Select Proxy Server, and click Browse Anonymously.
VPNBook advertises SSL-encrypted proxy traffic. Its privacy page also says it records the connection IP address and connection time and automatically deletes those logs weekly. Therefore, it should not be treated as an anonymous browsing service.
VPNBook’s web proxy handles the browser page opened through it. It is not the same as using VPNBook’s VPN service, which is designed to cover traffic from the device more broadly.

How to use a proxy website
- Open the provider’s official homepage. Avoid copied proxy-list links and lookalike domains.
- Enter the complete destination URL, including
https://where applicable. - Choose a server location if the proxy offers one.
- Use the provider’s own button: Go on hide.me, Go! on CroxyProxy, Go on ProxySite.com, or Browse Anonymously on VPNBook.
- Check that the destination loads before entering any information.
- Close the proxy tab when finished and sign out of accounts you used.
A browser proxy normally covers only the page or tab opened through the service. It does not automatically route other browser tabs, desktop applications, mobile apps, DNS requests, or background services.
Why a proxy may not unblock a site
A proxy can sometimes bypass a local block because the destination sees the proxy’s address rather than your direct address. However, websites can identify and block proxy traffic using IP reputation, autonomous system number, country, request rate, or anti-bot challenges. Shared proxy addresses are frequently used by many people and may already have a poor reputation.

Free proxy reliability is particularly unpredictable. A 30-month study of the wider free-proxy ecosystem found that only 34.5% of collected proxies were active at least once. A separate 2024 study of more than 640,600 free proxies found vulnerable hosts, traffic manipulation by 16,923 proxies, and substantial instability.

A proxy changes the route to a website; it does not erase your identity. The proxy operator may see connection metadata and, depending on how the service handles the request, traffic content. Cookies, browser fingerprints, account logins, and tracking identifiers can still identify you.
“SSL proxy” is also easy to misunderstand. It generally protects the connection from your browser to the proxy. The proxy still receives your request and fetches the destination page. HTTPS protects data in transit between the relevant endpoints; it does not make the proxy operator unable to process the traffic.
Do not use a free browser proxy for:
- Banking, tax, healthcare, employment, or government accounts.
- Passwords, payment-card information, recovery codes, or private messages.
- Downloading unknown files or browser extensions.
- Torrenting or activity prohibited by the provider’s terms.
- Bypassing an employer’s, school’s, or service provider’s acceptable-use rules.
Proxy versus VPN
A web proxy is convenient for opening one destination in a browser. A VPN is intended to create a broader encrypted connection for the device or network, depending on the product and configuration. Neither automatically guarantees anonymity or access to every website.
Use a proxy for low-risk, short-lived browsing when you understand who operates it. Use a reputable VPN, configured from its official application, when you need broader network coverage. For banking, work systems, healthcare, and other sensitive services, the safest option is usually the provider’s normal direct connection and official application.

Outdated proxy advice to ignore
- “A proxy makes you anonymous.” It may hide your direct IP address from a destination, but the proxy, cookies, fingerprints, and logged-in accounts can still identify you.
- “SSL means the proxy cannot read anything.” SSL protects a connection segment; it does not remove the proxy from the communication path.
- “No logs means no data is collected.” Policies differ. The services above disclose different forms and retention periods for connection or access logs.
- “Every free proxy-list entry is interchangeable.” Many are unreachable, unstable, vulnerable, or capable of modifying traffic.
- “A proxy works for every website.” Anti-bot systems, location checks, login security, streaming controls, and unsupported protocols can all prevent access.
- “Google Web Light is a current proxy.” Google discontinued Web Light in December 2022, so it should not appear in a current recommendation list.
