Yes. Sony says the base PS5 is getting Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), an AI-upscaling option related to the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) feature on PS5 Pro. The first announced games are Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei, which Sony said would receive patches offering QSSR as an additional graphics option.
What QSSR does on the base PS5
Sony announced QSSR on October 1, 2026, describing it as an AI-upscaling performance tier developed from Project Amethyst, its AI graphics collaboration with AMD. Upscaling reconstructs an image to improve its apparent detail; Sony says QSSR is designed to improve image detail and stability on PS5.
Sony identifies two implementation changes: a streamlined neural-network architecture and an implementation hand-tuned to maximize performance on PS5. Those are descriptions of the technology, not published measurements of image quality or frame rate.

QSSR brings related upscaling technology to the base console, but Sony presents it as a distinct performance tier rather than claiming parity with PS5 Pro’s PSSR. The announcement contains qualitative claims about detail and stability, not a measured uplift, percentage, or frame-rate result.

Which games support QSSR first?
Sony named two launch titles and said each would be patched on announcement day to offer QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5:
- Marvel’s Wolverine. Insomniac Games’ Head of Technology, Mike Fitzgerald, said QSSR adds pixel-level clarity and stability to the game’s environments.
- Ghost of Yōtei. Sucker Punch Productions’ Lead Rendering Engineer, Jasmin Patry, said QSSR resolves fine detail in characters and environments with temporal stability not previously possible on PS5.
These are developer descriptions reproduced in Sony’s announcement, not independent test results. QSSR is an optional graphics choice in the named games, not a requirement Sony says players must enable.

Will more PS5 games get QSSR?
Sony says it will offer QSSR broadly to PlayStation developers, but it has not provided a rollout calendar or confirmed additional games beyond the two launch titles in its October 1, 2026 announcement. Wider availability is therefore an intention, not a confirmed adoption list or date.

The announcement does not provide independently measured image-quality results, a frame-rate impact, exact settings navigation, or details about system-software and regional variation. Those specifics should not be assumed from the announcement alone.
