Apple announced the phone on September 9, 2014, so these are best understood as the features that defined the iPhone 6 at launch—not a recommendation to buy one today.
1. A larger 4.7-inch Retina HD display
The standard iPhone 6 moved to a 4.7-inch LED-backlit Retina HD display, a noticeable increase for people coming from earlier, smaller iPhones. Apple specified a resolution of 1334 × 750 pixels at 326 pixels per inch, dual-domain pixels for wider viewing angles, a typical contrast ratio of 1400:1, and typical brightness of 500 cd/m². Apple’s iPhone 6 technical specifications also list Display Zoom, which enlarges on-screen content, and Reachability, which brings the upper part of the interface within easier thumb reach.
Compared with the iPhone 6 Plus, the standard iPhone 6 has the smaller screen and body. Its dimensions are 138.1 × 67.0 × 6.9 mm, and it weighs 129 grams. Apple’s specifications are useful when comparing the two models for screen size and one-handed handling.
2. A8 performance and M8 motion sensing
Apple equipped the iPhone 6 with an A8 chip using 64-bit architecture and an M8 motion coprocessor. At launch, Apple said the M8 could continuously measure data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, and barometer. That gave Health and fitness apps information they could use to track activities such as walking, running, and flights climbed, while reducing the need for the main processor to handle motion readings when the phone was asleep. Apple’s September 9, 2014 announcement describes the chip and motion-sensing capabilities.

3. An improved 8-megapixel camera
The rear iSight camera combines an 8-megapixel sensor with 1.5µ pixels, Focus Pixels autofocus, an ƒ/2.2 aperture, a five-element lens, True Tone flash, face detection, and automatic HDR. Panorama shots can reach up to 43 megapixels, and the camera includes burst mode. For video, Apple lists 1080p HD recording at 30 or 60 frames per second, slow motion at 120 or 240 frames per second, and stabilized time-lapse. Apple’s camera specifications distinguish the regular iPhone 6 from the iPhone 6 Plus: optical image stabilization is listed for the Plus, not the standard iPhone 6.
4. Touch ID and Apple Pay
Touch ID puts a fingerprint identity sensor in the Home button. Apple also lists NFC and support for paying with iPhone using Touch ID in stores and apps. In its 2014 announcement, Apple presented Apple Pay as a way to make payments with a touch of a finger. Apple’s launch announcement explains the original feature; it does not establish whether Apple Pay is currently available for a particular card, account, region, or service.

5. Fast wireless connections in a slim aluminum body
The iPhone 6 supports 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth 4.2, and includes NFC and LTE. LTE band support varies by model, so check the exact model against the bands used by a carrier before relying on cellular compatibility. The aluminum unibody has shaped glass, and the phone measures 6.9 mm deep. Apple’s technical specifications provide the wireless and physical details.

The iPhone 6 launched in 2014, and its original storage options were 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. Those details identify the model, but do not establish the condition, battery health, warranty, seller quality, or current price of any used handset. Before buying a second-hand unit, check its exact model and storage, inspect its condition, and verify battery health and carrier compatibility with the seller. A listed feature or capacity alone is not evidence that an individual phone is in good working order.

For comparisons, focus on the differences that matter in use: display size and resolution, reachability and body dimensions, camera stabilization, processor and motion-sensing features, payment support, wireless bands, storage, and the condition and battery health of the specific device. The iPhone 6 Plus has optical image stabilization, while the standard iPhone 6 does not, according to Apple’s model specifications.
