Teradata announced AI Factory in June 2025 as an integrated, on-premises AI environment built on its IntelliFlex platform. It brings an AI development workspace together with Teradata data and analytics capabilities, and can connect to customer-provided NVIDIA GPU infrastructure for accelerated workloads. The pitch is to help enterprise teams build and operate AI close to data they control; Teradata’s claims about simplicity, cost, performance and compliance are vendor positioning, not independent validation.

What Teradata AI Factory is

AI Factory was announced on June 24, 2025. Teradata described it as a ready-to-run on-premises solution combining its data and analytics software with tools for AI development and deployment, based on IntelliFlex. Its stated audience includes data scientists, data engineers, analysts, machine-learning engineers, AI architects and administrators. See Teradata’s launch announcement and the AI Factory documentation.

“Ready-to-run” should not be read as a claim that every deployment arrives with all compute or models included. Teradata describes the solution as linking to customer GPU infrastructure; the cited materials do not identify one universal GPU model or sizing configuration.

How the pieces fit together

AI Workbench for development

The central workspace is AI Workbench, which Teradata describes as a self-service environment for collaborative AI work. Its documentation covers multi-user JupyterHub notebook development. Teradata materials also describe Python, R and Teradata SQL workflows, alongside tools such as ModelOps, Airflow, Gitea and Devpi, plus notebook accelerators and lifecycle or governance support. These are product descriptions rather than independent findings about usability. Details are in the AI Workbench documentation and Teradata’s AI Factory announcement.

Data, analytics and retrieval

The platform combines Teradata database and analytics capabilities with Enterprise Vector Store, which supports embeddings and retrieval for generative-AI and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) workflows. ClearScape Analytics provides in-engine AI and machine-learning capabilities. The launch materials also identify Database Engine, in-engine AI/ML analytics and Open Table Format as parts of the architecture. Teradata’s AI Factory overview describes these components.

AI services and GPU acceleration

Teradata AI Microservices connect Teradata workflows with NVIDIA technologies. Teradata describes native RAG capabilities including embeddings, retrieval, reranking and guardrails, and says customer GPUs can accelerate AI workloads. GPU acceleration therefore depends on the customer’s infrastructure; the cited materials do not establish that every AI Factory deployment includes GPUs or supports a particular NVIDIA model. The architecture is also shown in Teradata’s AI Factory flyer.

Pipelines and integration

Teradata’s launch description names ingestion tooling and QueryGrid, and says the solution supports open table formats, object stores and NVIDIA tools for handling complex formats such as PDFs. Those integrations may matter when assessing how AI workloads fit an existing data environment; the cited description does not quantify setup effort or guarantee compatibility with every customer system.

Who may benefit—and what to evaluate

The strongest fit suggested by Teradata’s materials is an enterprise that wants to develop or run AI within infrastructure it controls, especially where data sovereignty, privacy or regulation are important. Teradata cites healthcare, finance and government as examples. The company describes governed collaboration and experimentation, but the available materials do not independently verify that a particular deployment satisfies a legal or regulatory obligation.

Before treating the platform as a fit, assess the practical requirements against your own workloads:

  • Data location and governance: Identify where sensitive data must reside and which controls your organization must implement and validate.
  • Existing Teradata environment: Determine how the proposed deployment relates to your current Teradata estate and other data systems.
  • GPU capacity: Establish whether you will provide compatible GPU infrastructure and how its capacity will be sized for training or inference.
  • Models and tools: Check the frameworks, models and development workflows your teams need; the cited materials do not establish universal model or GPU compatibility.
  • Operations and economics: Account for integration, administration, service-level needs and the total cost of the actual workload. Teradata’s materials do not provide a current price or independent cost comparison.

AI Factory and Teradata Factory are different announcements

Keep the names and timelines distinct. AI Factory is the 2025 IntelliFlex-based product story, which Teradata’s current on-premises page describes as formerly IntelliFlex and primarily designed for AI workloads. On May 19, 2026, Teradata announced Teradata Factory, built on Dell Technologies enterprise compute and storage as an on-premises foundation extending the Autonomous Knowledge Platform. Teradata presents Teradata Factory as a separate portfolio development, not as another name for AI Factory. See the Teradata Factory announcement and Teradata’s current on-premises product page.

What the available evidence does—and does not—show

Teradata’s materials explain the intended architecture and target use cases, but they do not establish comparative performance, deployment-specific security outcomes, legal compliance, or lower total cost. The launch release attributes a projection to Gartner’s March 5, 2025 report: “By 2028, more than 20% of enterprises will run AI workloads (training or inference) locally in their data centers, an increase from approximately 2% as of early 2025.” This is a Gartner projection quoted by Teradata, not an independently checked result in the cited materials.

Accordingly, AI Factory is best understood as Teradata’s integrated on-premises AI offering and a specific architecture to evaluate—not as proof that an organization’s AI work will automatically become simpler, cheaper or compliant. A decision requires validating the required hardware, integrations and operating costs against the organization’s own workloads.
