It is not a current performance powerhouse: TCL lists a Helio G37 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, and its published security-update period ended in December 2023. Whether it is worth buying now depends on its price, condition, local carrier compatibility and your tolerance for outdated software support.
What the base TCL 30 offers
TCL announced the TCL 30 on February 27, 2022, as one of five phones in its TCL 30 series. Its feature mix prioritizes a large, high-resolution display, battery capacity and practical extras over high-end processing hardware. The figures below are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance or camera test results.

These specifications make the screen, NFC, headphone jack and storage expansion notable conveniences. They do not establish how quickly apps run, how long the battery lasts in a particular person’s use, or how good the cameras look in practice. TCL’s launch materials promoted battery life, but claims such as “better than day-long battery life” are manufacturer marketing rather than independent test results.

No. The base TCL 30 is a 4G phone. The TCL 30 5G is a separate model, not a 5G version setting that can be enabled on the base handset. TCL lists a MediaTek Dimensity 700 and 5G connectivity for the 30 5G, compared with the base TCL 30’s Helio G37 and 4G connectivity.
Do not assume that specifications, accessories or network compatibility for one model apply to the other. TCL’s support pages also list several distinct names in the series, including the 30 XE 5G, 30 XL, 30 SE, 30 Z, 30 V 5G and 30 LE. Check the complete model name and model number on the device and listing before buying, especially when ordering a case or replacement part.

How fast is the TCL 30?
TCL specifies a MediaTek Helio G37, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage. Those figures identify a modest configuration, not a current high-performance phone. The available specifications do not establish benchmark scores or real-world results for gaming, multitasking or app loading, so it would be misleading to promise a particular level of speed.

For a prospective buyer, the practical decision is whether this older hardware suits the intended use. A phone for basic calling, messaging and light everyday tasks may be adequate if it is inexpensive and works well; anyone prioritizing demanding games, heavier multitasking or a newer performance platform should compare newer options rather than treating the “powerhouse” label as a performance finding.

How long does the battery last, and how fast does it charge?
The battery’s stated typical capacity is 5,010mAh. That number describes capacity, not a guaranteed runtime: TCL says results vary with usage and network conditions, and the available information does not establish an independent battery-life test. The three-hour charging time is also TCL’s listed figure, not a guarantee for every charger or charging condition.
TCL lists 10W charging as supplied and says the handset supports 18W charging. Check the charger and cable included with a particular used or remaining-stock device rather than assuming they are present or that an 18W charger is included.

The base TCL 30 is an older phone, and TCL’s specification page lists its security updates through December 2023. That published end date has passed; the page does not establish that the handset currently receives security updates. For a phone used for sensitive accounts or as a primary device, that support status deserves serious weight alongside the price.

- Confirm the exact model. Verify that the listing and device identify the base TCL 30, not the TCL 30 5G or another 30-series handset.
- Check current software status. Inspect the phone’s update screen and verify the installed Android version and most recent security patch. TCL listed Android 12 at specification time; this does not establish the version now installed on a particular device.
- Verify carrier acceptance locally. Compare the exact model’s supported 4G bands with your carrier, then confirm directly with the carrier that it will activate the device. Supported bands alone do not prove that a carrier accepts it.
- Inspect condition and return terms. For a used device, check the display, charging port, battery behavior, cameras, speakers, fingerprint reader and SIM tray. Prefer a seller with a return policy if the handset arrives with faults or cannot be activated.
- Check the storage trade-off and included items. Expansion supports microSD up to 1TB, but using a card takes the slot that can otherwise hold a second SIM. Verify whether the charger, cable and any case are actually included; check exact-model fit for a replacement case.

Is the TCL 30 worth buying?
It can make sense as a low-cost, basic-use phone if the particular unit is in good condition, your carrier accepts it and the software-support status fits your needs. Its AMOLED screen, NFC, headphone jack, dual speakers and expandable storage remain useful features on paper. The case for buying weakens if the price approaches that of a newer phone, if you need 5G, or if current security support is a priority. No current price comparison or independent performance, camera or battery test is established here, so judge a specific offer against those limitations rather than the “mid-range powerhouse” description.
