A full-page screenshot captures the document’s scrollable page; it does not automatically reveal everything hidden inside independently scrolling panels. To capture a nested panel, target that element separately. To include all its content, first expose or capture its different scroll positions, then check the result—sticky elements, lazy loading, and virtualized content can affect what appears.
Choose what you need to capture
There are three different targets: the whole document, the visible portion of a nested panel, or all content inside that panel. Decide which one you need before choosing a capture method. Playwright describes its full-page capture as a screenshot of the full scrollable page, not as an instruction to expand every independently scrolling region. Playwright’s screenshot documentation covers page and element screenshots.
- Whole page: Capture the document’s full scrollable area.
- Panel as currently displayed: Capture the element. A scrollable element screenshot includes only the part currently scrolled into view.
- All panel content: Change the panel’s scroll state or expose its content, then capture it in one or more pieces. A full-page option alone is not documented as expanding nested scroll regions.
Capture the document with Playwright
Use Playwright’s fullPage option when the goal is the page’s document-level scroll area. This Node.js example assumes Playwright is installed and a page has been opened:

Capture a nested scrolling panel
Capture the visible portion
Use a locator for the panel and take an element screenshot. This captures the selected element, but if it scrolls internally, only its currently visible scroll position is included. Playwright documents this element-screenshot behavior.

Capture all of the panel’s content
A nested panel may have its own scroll position and a fixed visible height. A practical approach is to deliberately expose its content before capture, or scroll the panel through successive positions and save separate captures. If you stitch captures together, check for overlaps, sticky content, and changes between frames. These are implementation strategies, not a guarantee that every application can be captured faithfully: virtualized lists may render only currently visible items, and page scripts can change content while you capture it.
For a repeatable script, first identify which element owns scrolling. In browser developer tools, inspect the panel and check whether its content continues beyond its visible box. Then choose whether the output should preserve the panel’s current appearance or document all of its content. Confirm the saved image rather than assuming a document-level full-page screenshot includes the panel’s hidden overflow.

Capture manually in Firefox
Firefox offers a full-page screenshot workflow and element capture in Developer Tools. Mozilla documents the Inspector’s “Screenshot Node” command, as well as the Web Console :screenshot helper with --fullpage for a page and --selector for a selected element. See Mozilla’s screenshot documentation.
- For the whole page, use Firefox’s full-page screenshot control or the console helper with

Troubleshoot missing content
The page is long, but the panel is cut off
The document and panel have different scroll owners. Capture the panel separately; if you need everything inside it, expose or capture its internal scroll positions rather than relying on the page’s full-page setting.

The panel screenshot shows only part of the content
This is expected for a scrollable element: its screenshot may show only the currently visible portion. Scroll the panel or otherwise expose its content before capturing, and verify each output.
Content appears only after scrolling
Lazy-loaded images or other dynamic content may not exist in the page until it is brought into view. Scroll the relevant page or panel before capture, allow content to load, and inspect the saved image. Do not assume one capture operation will trigger every application’s loading behavior.

Rows or items are absent even after scrolling
An application may render only the visible part of a virtualized list. Separate captures can still omit items if they are replaced as you scroll; whether the application offers a way to render or export the full data depends on that application.
A Playwright full-page capture fails with non-body scrolling
A GitHub issue opened on March 22, 2022 described incomplete full-page capture when scrolling belonged to a non-body element, using Playwright 1.20.0. It is a historical report, not evidence that current Playwright releases have the same defect. Check which element scrolls, capture it directly where appropriate, and verify the result.
