First identify what “uploading a video” means: a scheduled pre-recorded broadcast, a local StreamYard recording upload, or YouTube processing the broadcast archive. A scheduled pre-recorded stream normally ends when its video finishes. If the broadcast stopped earlier, check its status and the exact error before assuming why. If only a local recording or YouTube archive is still processing, that is a separate issue from the live stream ending.
Identify what stopped
Compare the source video’s intended duration with the actual broadcast duration, then check StreamYard’s broadcast status and the YouTube live page or dashboard for an error or restriction. Also establish whether the remaining activity is a local recording upload or archive processing.
- Broadcast ended at the source video’s end: likely normal for scheduled pre-recorded streaming.
- Broadcast ended before the source video finished: inspect the status and error checks below.
- Only a local recording upload is incomplete: use the recovery steps below, preserving the original browser data.
- Broadcast is over but its archive is missing: check the Live tab and allow time for YouTube processing.
The available StreamYard guidance cannot identify the cause of a particular early termination without its status, error message, source duration, and clarification of which upload is involved.
If a scheduled pre-recorded broadcast ended
It ended when the video finished
That is expected behavior. StreamYard’s Help Center article “Pre-recorded Streaming” says the livestream starts at the scheduled time and “end[s] once the video is finished.”

It ended before the source video finished
- Compare durations. Note the source file’s intended length and the actual stream length.
- Check both systems. Review the StreamYard broadcast status and the YouTube live page or dashboard for an error, restriction, or other visible status.
- Use the exact message to choose a fix. Account restrictions, connectivity, browser or device problems, extensions, and firewall, proxy, or VPN settings are among the possibilities described in StreamYard’s connection troubleshooting guidance. These checks do not establish which cause affected your broadcast.
- Check the source file if it lagged or failed to upload. StreamYard recommends re-encoding with HandBrake and trying again. Its current help page specifies MP4 with H.264 video encoding and a maximum video bitrate of 10 Mbps. It also notes paid-plan streaming up to 1080p and plan-dependent file-size and duration limits; check the linked page for current limits before choosing a plan or changing a file.
If a local recording is still uploading
A local participant recording is captured in the browser and uploaded separately from the public YouTube broadcast. An unfinished local upload does not, by itself, mean the live stream failed.
- Keep the original device and browser profile that hosted the broadcast. Do not clear its cache or cookies, switch profiles, or close a private-browsing session that still holds the recording data.
- Keep participants in the studio until their uploads finish, where possible. Close other StreamYard tabs, then revisit streamyard.com/upload using the same device and browser. StreamYard says guests can return to the upload page within 30 days to finish uploading.
- Check whether the connection can upload reliably and whether a VPN, firewall, or browser extension is interfering. Make sure the browser is set to preserve site data.
- After upload completes, allow time for processing. StreamYard says most local recordings are available in about 30 minutes on average, though delays can be longer; contact StreamYard support if processing has not completed after 24 hours.
StreamYard says local recording data cannot be recovered if a private-browsing session was closed before the upload finished. Its stuck-upload help page advises against clearing browser data while uploads are incomplete.

If the YouTube archive is not visible
A missing video in YouTube’s Uploads view does not prove that the live broadcast failed or ended early. Look in the channel’s Live tab and StreamYard’s Past Streams section; there, select View on YouTube to open the destination video. StreamYard says a past live stream may take up to about 24 hours to appear under YouTube Uploads while processing completes. This is archive visibility after the broadcast, not the local recording workflow.
Match the error to the next check
YouTube says live streaming is currently prevented
StreamYard says this is typically related to a YouTube Community Guidelines violation. Check the YouTube dashboard for details and follow YouTube’s appeal process if applicable.

StreamYard cannot connect to the YouTube account
StreamYard says reconnecting often resolves account connection trouble. During the permission flow, confirm that StreamYard is allowed to manage the YouTube account.
A generic “An error occurred” message appears
For this generic connection error, StreamYard recommends refreshing the video page, confirming internet access, restarting the browser and computer, checking network speed, and reviewing firewall, proxy, or VPN settings. Disable extensions that could interfere. It also suggests trying a private window for this generic connection problem. Do not use that private-window suggestion to recover a local recording upload: closing a private session can discard the browser-stored data needed for recovery.
