YouTube lists both as software encoders, but the official documentation available does not provide a controlled endurance test comparing them. Choose based on your workflow and computer, then test the exact setup over several hours before relying on it unattended.

OBS or Streamlabs: which is better for a 24/7 YouTube stream?
Both can send an encoder stream to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder directory lists Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) as open-source software available at no charge and lists Streamlabs as a software encoder. YouTube’s directory is not a 24/7 reliability benchmark, so it does not establish that either desktop app will run longer or recover better from an outage.

For prerecorded 24/7 playout, YouTube’s encoder directory also lists cloud service Gyre and browser-based Upstream. Those are workflow alternatives to desktop encoding, but their listing does not verify current India availability, pricing, or suitability for every format. Set up YouTube encoder settings for a sustained connection
Choose settings your upload connection can sustain rather than targeting the highest resolution by default. YouTube recommends running a speed test, selecting resolution, frame rate and bitrate in the encoder when using Live Control Room, testing representative audio and video, and monitoring stream health and messages. YouTube can transcode an incoming stream into multiple output formats. Its current encoder settings guidance recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data to and through Google’s servers. These are YouTube’s published H.264 ranges; they are not universal targets for other codecs or guarantees of quality on a particular connection.

YouTube publishes different ranges for AV1 and H.265, so do not apply these H.264 figures to a different codec. The settings page lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264/H.265/AV1, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe frequency; do not exceed four seconds. Check the current YouTube settings before configuring an encoder.
Test the actual production, not an idle scene
- Build the intended scenes and sources. Include the overlays, browser sources, audio, and motion you expect to use. A simple test scene may not reveal the load of the real broadcast.
- Run a representative multi-hour test. YouTube recommends testing representative audio and video. For a planned 24/7 stream, extending that test over several hours is a practical way to expose problems before leaving it unattended.
- Watch YouTube stream health and encoder load. Look for dropped frames, warnings, sustained CPU/GPU load, thermal issues, audio interruptions, and disk usage if recording locally.
- Test recovery deliberately. Check what happens after a network interruption or encoder restart. Official documentation does not promise either desktop app will automatically recover from every failure.
These checks are a practical extension of YouTube’s testing and monitoring guidance, not an official guarantee of uninterrupted operation. Computer specifications that meet a vendor’s minimum are not proof that a complex scene can stream continuously.

Can YouTube save a 24/7 livestream?
Do not rely on YouTube to archive one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends a local recording backup, and warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” YouTube: Archive live streams
If a complete replay matters, plan how to preserve it independently: test local recording, confirm available disk space, and check file splitting and restart behavior in the app you use. YouTube’s archive limit applies regardless of whether OBS or Streamlabs is the encoder.

24/7 streaming, copyright and YouTube monetization
Keeping a channel live for longer does not by itself make a stream eligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Its July 15, 2025 clarification renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and says repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible under its expectations for original and authentic work. For India, check YouTube’s India-region earnings information for current Partner Program and feature-specific requirements. The page lists ad-revenue eligibility as 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the prior 365 days or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the prior 90 days, alongside other requirements. These are eligibility thresholds, not a guarantee of approval or earnings; some fan-funding features have lower thresholds but their own age, location, and policy conditions. What is different about streaming from India?
The official encoder guidance cited here does not establish an India-specific advantage for either app or prescribe a different bitrate for Indian creators. Your practical constraints are the upload connection, computer workload, and local power continuity. Streamlabs recommends Ethernet, but a wired connection cannot resolve ISP congestion, an upstream outage, or a power cut. The available sources do not establish specific ISP reliability or local power conditions across India.
