STMicroelectronics and Mobileye are adding ST’s Stellar automotive microcontrollers to reference designs for Mobileye’s next-generation EyeQ6 Lite and EyeQ6 High systems. EyeQ6 supplies the processing for Mobileye’s driver-assistance workloads; Stellar adds real-time microcontroller functions and safety-oriented software separation. The expanded design is intended to help multiple applications run together efficiently while meeting demanding automotive safety requirements. It is an OEM- and Tier-1-focused semiconductor development, not a consumer product launch.
What did STMicroelectronics and Mobileye expand?
The companies broadened a long-running semiconductor relationship by adopting ST’s Stellar automotive microcontrollers in next-generation Mobileye EyeQ6 Lite and EyeQ6 High reference designs. Mobileye CEO Prof. Amnon Shashua described the integration as a way for multiple software applications to coexist with real-time performance, increase efficiency, accelerate development, and maintain high safety standards at STMicroelectronics’ 2024 Capital Markets Day.
The announcement concerns reference designs: system architectures intended to guide customer development. It does not, by itself, identify a specific automaker, vehicle model, or production vehicle using the combined design.
How do EyeQ6 and Stellar work together?

In practical terms, EyeQ6 handles compute-intensive perception and driver-assistance processing, while Stellar is intended to handle deterministic MCU tasks and help isolate applications and resources. Integrating these functions in a reference design may reduce the complexity of combining separate vehicle electronics, but the announcement does not quantify ECU reductions, latency, power savings, or development-time gains.

ST also supports EyeQ implementation beyond the processor architecture itself. Mobileye says ST contributes physical implementation, automotive-grade memories, high-speed interfaces, system-in-package design, and qualification support. ST’s customer-success account describes its involvement in co-design, process and packaging, design-for-test, qualification, and high-volume manufacturing.
Why does the pairing matter for ADAS safety?
Advanced driver-assistance systems combine workloads that have different requirements. Camera-based perception benefits from substantial processing throughput, while control and communications functions may depend on predictable timing and carefully managed interactions among software components. A design that brings these functions together must address both performance and separation: high compute capacity alone does not establish that safety-critical tasks run predictably or that software interference is controlled.

ST presents Stellar’s virtualization, resource partitioning, and peripheral firewalls as ways to let independent applications coexist while preserving isolation. Mobileye describes the EyeQ family as designed for systems requiring ASIL D, the highest automotive safety integrity level under ISO 26262. These are descriptions of the companies’ design goals and capabilities; they are not, on their own, evidence that every vehicle using an EyeQ6-and-Stellar design has achieved a particular system-level safety certification. Vehicle-level safety depends on the complete system, its implementation, and its validation.
The companies’ stated goals include more efficient integration and shorter development cycles. ST has also positioned Stellar for future domain- and zone-based vehicle architectures and service-oriented communication. Those are architectural aims, not measured outcomes for a named vehicle program in the cited announcements.

What is known about EyeQ6 production and scale?
EyeQ6 Lite
On April 17, 2024, Mobileye said it had delivered the first production-candidate EyeQ6 Lite hardware and software to customers. The company said the chip was set to be installed in 46 million vehicles over the following years. That figure is Mobileye’s planned-installation forecast from 2024, not a verified count of vehicles already on the road; deployments and schedules can change.
EyeQ6 High
At the same time, Mobileye said EyeQ6 High was on track for launch in early 2025. In its 2025 results release, Mobileye said EyeQ6 High was on track for series production. The available statements establish those company-reported milestones, not whether a particular vehicle reached production or the actual number of systems shipped after the stated schedule.

Mobileye’s 2025 release also reported that EyeQ6 High achieved 10 times the frame-per-second processing compared with EyeQ5 High. It described a compound-AI software infrastructure with a line of sight to approximately 100 times the camera-only mean-time-between-failure compared with EyeQ5 High. Both are Mobileye-reported engineering claims; the release’s camera-only qualification applies to the latter comparison, and neither figure should be treated as an independent test result or a guarantee of real-world vehicle safety.
EyeQ family history
ST’s customer-success account, accessed in 2026, says the companies’ collaboration spans six generations of automotive-grade EyeQ systems and that hundreds of millions of units shipped from EyeQ1 through EyeQ6H. Mobileye’s Form 10-K separately says it co-developed six EyeQ generations with ST, including EyeQ5 and EyeQ6, and that EyeQ integrated circuits are manufactured by or outsourced to a partner foundry by ST.

Can consumers buy EyeQ6 or Stellar?
EyeQ6 processors and Stellar MCUs are automotive semiconductors intended for vehicle manufacturers and suppliers, rather than consumer products sold as standalone chips. The production-candidate hardware and software delivery Mobileye announced was to customers in the automotive development context. The cited materials do not establish a consumer retail product or public consumer purchasing program for either component.
