StarTech.com’s 1014GCN-WALL-CHARGER is a single-port, 140W USB-C wall charger built around USB Power Delivery 3.1 and GaN technology. It includes a 6-foot (1.8 m) USB-C cable rated for up to 240W, making it suitable for high-power USB-C laptops as well as phones, tablets and other devices that support USB-C PD. The 140W figure is the port’s maximum capability—not a guarantee that every device will draw 140W.
What the StarTech 1014GCN is
StarTech identifies this model as the 1014GCN-WALL-CHARGER. It has one USB-C output, supports USB Power Delivery 3.1 with Extended Power Range (EPR), and uses gallium nitride (GaN) components to deliver high output in a wall-charger form factor.
This is the single-port North American model. It has a foldable NEMA 1-15P plug; it is not the separate multiport or international travel version in StarTech’s broader 140W range.

What “140W USB-C PD 3.1” means
140W is the maximum power the charger can provide from its single USB-C port when the connected device and cable negotiate a compatible USB PD profile. A laptop that supports only a lower profile will draw less, and phones or tablets typically request substantially less power. The charger cannot upgrade a device’s charging circuitry or make an unsupported profile available.
Why PD 3.1 and EPR matter
USB PD 3.1 adds Extended Power Range profiles for higher-power devices. In practical terms, the 1014GCN is aimed at USB-C laptops and other equipment that can negotiate high-wattage PD charging, while remaining backward-compatible with lower-power USB-C PD devices.

The cable is part of the high-power setup
The included cable is 240W EPR-rated and 6 feet long. That rating exceeds the charger’s 140W maximum, so the cable is specified for the charger’s full output without requiring a separate high-capacity cable. Actual charging still depends on the device, its charging profile and the negotiated connection.

These are StarTech’s compatibility claims rather than independent verification. Before buying, check your device maker’s documentation for USB-C PD support, the maximum input wattage and any required charging modes. A device may charge normally at a lower rate even when it cannot use the charger’s full 140W.
Physical design and safety claims
The foldable plug can make storage easier, but the NEMA 1-15P plug limits this model to North American-style outlets unless an appropriate, regionally safe solution is used. Its listed 10.5-ounce (299-gram) weight and approximately 3.8 × 1.2 × 3-inch dimensions are useful checks for crowded outlets, travel bags and laptop sleeves.

StarTech says both the charger and included cable are USB-IF certified. It also lists TUV Safety Listing to IEC 62368-1, FCC/ICES EMC certification, and over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protection. Those statements describe the manufacturer’s published certifications and safeguards; they are not a substitute for an independent laboratory review.

That announcement does not confirm current stock, price or an active Amazon listing for this exact SKU. Check the current StarTech announcement and the model-specific product page before ordering.
