How multiplayer works
Multiplayer uses a compressed version of the game’s runs-based structure. Before a tour, players choose a Racer Style and tune a vehicle with parts, upgrades, and abilities. The tour culminates in a final knockout event, where the build and performance across the run feed into the outcome. Fuse Games describes the format as shorter than the campaign’s tours.
Winning a multiplayer tour awards XP toward character and customization unlocks. Players who are out of contention can still vote on who they think will win the final race and earn XP for that participation. The developer has not published a numeric XP amount, so rewards should not be understood as a guaranteed rate or fixed quantity.
Player counts, bots, and cross-play
At launch, reviewers reported 12-player online sessions. TechRadar observed 12-player Tours and cross-play during its review sessions. Creative Bloq described drop-in sessions with bots filling empty slots, and a five-race sequence before a Derven Acos season decider. These are launch-week review observations, not a guarantee that every mode or later service configuration has the same format.

Microsoft’s Xbox store listing specifies online multiplayer for 2–12 players and Xbox cross-platform multiplayer. That listing describes Xbox’s stated capability; it does not establish that every mode, particularly the dedicated podracer events, supports up to 12 players. A platform-by-platform cross-play matrix and cross-progression between platforms are not established in the available sources.
Podracer-focused online events
The official story-trailer announcement confirms that players can access podracing through Arcade and take part in podracer-focused online multiplayer events. The specific player cap for those events is not stated in the official material cited here.

Xbox online-play requirement
For Xbox console players, the current Xbox store listing says online multiplayer requires Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, sold separately. This requirement is specific to the Xbox listing and should not be generalized to PC or PlayStation.
What happens during a campaign tour
The Galactic Tour is a solo, branching run rather than a single fixed sequence. Xbox Wire’s June 23, 2026 hands-on preview describes a route randomized when a tour starts, with three acts and choices between events. Those choices shape the route and risks you take.

Failure has consequences: crashing too often or failing a high-stakes event can end a tour and cost a League Token. That does not mean every reward is wiped. Xbox Wire reports that some Galactic Credits remain after a failed tour, while the developer describes persistent progression outside individual tours.

There are two layers of campaign progression: temporary decisions that shape the current tour and longer-term improvements that remain available between tours. The sources establish several persistent tracks, but not that every item, reward, or tour state carries over.

Temporary build choices
During a tour, you can adjust vehicle stats such as cornering, resilience, Ramjet, and afterburner, and combine parts with different rarities and functions. Parts can develop faults. In an October 6, 2026 launch-day interview, Fuse Games Creative Director Kieran Crimmins said the standard setup can install up to five parts; parts come from event rewards or the shop.
These adjustments are part of the current run’s build. They let you respond to the events and route you encounter, rather than simply relying on a fixed vehicle setup.

Persistent progression between tours
Crimmins said players can improve vehicle stats permanently. Beating a tour expands the parts pool, unlocks favors that modify the rules of future runs, and allows Racer Style upgrades. These are longer-term progression systems, distinct from temporary stat choices made within one tour.
Multiplayer rewards are a separate track
Multiplayer’s tour is shorter, but players still make build decisions before the knockout. Its stated rewards include XP toward characters and customization, with prediction voting as another way to earn XP. That XP progression should not be confused with temporary vehicle stats or parts selected for an individual tour.

Where to play and edition note
Star Wars: Galactic Racer launched October 6, 2026. The publisher describes physical Standard and Deluxe editions, plus a Collector’s Edition with the game, a metal landspeeder model, printed art book, pilot patches, and steel case. Digital Deluxe content is separate: it includes extra vehicles, Arcade events, a livery, player banner, and digital art book. Do not assume the physical Collector’s Edition contents are included in the standard game, or that physical collectibles are part of a digital bundle. Availability varies by market.
