Unlike a general PLC PHY that needs a separate protocol stack, it integrates an 8-bit data-link engine for the METERS AND MORE protocol, along with the configurable PHY, analog front end, and line driver. ST labels the chip active and in volume production; its published electrical and communication limits are from a datasheet dated October 2017.
What the ST75MM integrates
The ST75MM sends and receives data over power lines, combining the signal-processing hardware with protocol-control functions intended for METERS AND MORE networks. Its integrated blocks include:
- A configurable DSP-based physical-layer processor and an 8-bit METERS AND MORE data-link protocol engine.
- An analog front end with ADC and DAC, a programmable-gain receiver, automatic gain control, and a single-ended line-driving power amplifier.
- Zero-crossing detection and an embedded temperature sensor.
- AES-128 encryption for authentication and confidentiality.
ST describes the combination as a way to build compact PLC equipment without putting the AFE and line driver on separate chips. The presence of AES-128 is not, by itself, a complete security design: system security also depends on how a product provisions keys, authenticates devices, and manages updates.
Published ST75MM specifications
The figures below are the limits and modes published in STMicroelectronics’ October 2017 datasheet, not a guarantee that every mode is enabled in every design. Confirm applicable requirements against the datasheet and the intended network implementation.

How METERS AND MORE support affects chip selection
The ST75MM’s differentiator is its native METERS AND MORE data-link support alongside the PLC physical layer. A competing implementation based on a general-purpose PLC PHY may instead require an external protocol stack, so compare the exact protocol responsibilities, integration work, and interoperability requirements—not simply whether a device is described as a PLC chip.
For selection, focus on these design questions:
- Protocol fit: Does the product need METERS AND MORE data-link functionality, and does the planned network require the ST75MM’s integrated implementation?
- Throughput: Is the 4.8 kbps robust B-PSK mode sufficient, or does the system rely on optional Q-PSK or 8-PSK modes for rates up to 28.8 kbps?
- Integration: Would the integrated AFE, line driver, zero-crossing detector, and encryption reduce the number of external components compared with the alternative architecture?
- Host and board fit: Can the host use the UART interface, meet the selected digital I/O voltage, and accommodate the package, power-amplifier supply, and operating-temperature range?
Applications and standards targets
ST lists advanced metering infrastructure, sub-metering, smart-grid networks, command-and-control networks, and smart-home applications for the ST75MM. The product documentation identifies CENELEC EN50065, ARIB, and FCC Part 15 as regulatory or application targets. Those references do not establish that a finished product automatically complies: compliance depends on the complete equipment, configuration, region, and applicable testing.

Evaluation kit and development path
ST’s EVALKITST75MM-1 is the official demonstration and development platform. It combines an ST75MM PLC board, an ALTAIR4-900 AC power-supply board, and an STM32 microcontroller. USB and JTAG provide direct host access. ST describes a typical demonstration setup with two or more kits connected on the same mains line.
The kit is useful for evaluating a working PLC link and host interaction before committing to a custom board. It is a development platform, not a substitute for validating the final product’s power-line interface, regulatory compliance, or deployment conditions.

ST75MM ordering and availability
ST’s October 2017 datasheet lists two package-ordering variants, both in VFQFPN48:

ST’s online store lists both as active industrial-grade products with Ecopack2, and lists EVALKITST75MM-1 as an active industrial product for home, building, and city automation. The chip listings showed out of stock when checked; stock and displayed pricing can change, so verify current availability with ST or an authorized distributor using the exact part number.

Is the ST75MM a good fit?
The ST75MM is most relevant when a design calls for METERS AND MORE over power lines and benefits from an integrated protocol engine, AFE, and line driver. Its published baseline PLC rate is modest, while optional modulation modes offer higher rates. Designers should weigh those capabilities against the host interface, supply rails, package, and complete-system compliance needs before choosing it.
