For most small businesses, Google Workspace bought directly from Google is the better long-term value: its standard monthly list prices are lower than the prices for the equivalent Workspace plans billed through Squarespace. Squarespace’s “Professional Email” route is Google Workspace sold through Squarespace as a reseller, not a separate productivity suite. It can suit a new Squarespace domain setup if you qualify for its first-year offer and prefer to manage billing alongside your site. Price snapshot: October 30, 2026; US list pricing.

The prices are US list prices published by Squarespace and Google in 2026. Squarespace lists monthly and annual billing for its plans; Google’s figures here are its standard monthly list prices. Taxes, eligibility and promotions can change the amount a particular business pays.

The central distinction is not a different Gmail experience. It is the commercial relationship behind the same Google service. Compare the recurring price, who controls the account relationship, how support is divided and whether your domain is already in use before selecting a checkout path.

Is Squarespace Professional Email the same as Google Workspace?

For this comparison, yes in terms of the core service: Squarespace resells Google Workspace. The meaningful differences are how you sign up, who bills you, where some account tasks happen and which company handles which support questions.

Squarespace’s documentation describes the relationship directly: “Squarespace is a Google Workspace reseller.” A customer buying through Squarespace still uses Google for email, calendars and documents. It is not a separate Squarespace-made alternative to Gmail, Drive or Meet.

There is a naming wrinkle. Squarespace also offers Essential Email by Titan, which is a separate email-only product. It should not be confused with the Workspace plans called Professional Email in this comparison. Choose between the Workspace routes if you need Google’s broader collaboration suite; consider Titan only if a branded inbox and basic email needs are enough.

This distinction affects purchasing decisions and expectations. A Workspace subscription gives each licensed user a Google identity, a custom-domain Gmail address and access to the tools included in that tier. Titan belongs to a different product category. Calling both products “Squarespace email” can hide the important question: does the business need a full collaboration platform or just hosted mail?

How much does each option cost?

On the standard monthly list prices published in 2026, buying direct from Google costs less at each equivalent tier. Squarespace’s annual prices are listed separately below; Google’s annual-commitment amount is not included because the pricing page showed a future-dated introductory promotion beginning November 12, 2026, after the October 30 pricing snapshot.

Google Workspace tier Through Squarespace, monthly billing Through Squarespace, annual billing Direct from Google, standard monthly list price Monthly difference per user
Business Starter $8.40/user/month $84/user/year $7/user/month $1.40 more through Squarespace
Business Standard $16.80/user/month $168/user/year $14/user/month $2.80 more through Squarespace
Business Plus $26.40/user/month $264/user/year $22/user/month $4.40 more through Squarespace

Price table checked Nov 2026; the underlying published price snapshot is October 30, 2026. The difference column is calculated from the vendors’ standard monthly list prices, not a guarantee of the final bill in every country or under every promotion.

For a team of five on monthly billing, the listed reseller premium works out to $7 per month on Starter, $14 on Standard or $22 on Plus compared with Google’s direct monthly list price. For ten users, the same premium is $14, $28 or $44 per month. Over twelve months, that is $168, $336 or $528 before taxes. These are arithmetic illustrations of the published per-user gap, not promises about a particular invoice.

Squarespace’s annual totals for ten users would be $840 on Starter, $1,680 on Standard and $2,640 on Plus. Annual billing can make cash-flow planning easier, but compare it with Google using the same period and commitment terms. The annual figures shown for Squarespace work out to $7, $14 and $22 per user per month when divided across a year, but they are annual billed prices, not monthly payment amounts.

Google’s pricing page advertises a 16% saving for annual commitment, but the page’s introductory promotion was dated to begin November 12, 2026. It was not yet a current offer on October 30, so it should not be treated as a discount available in this snapshot. Check the provider’s current checkout terms before committing, especially if your purchase date is after that promotion’s stated start.

A first-year offer can change the first invoice without changing the long-term comparison. Squarespace shows an eligible first-year Google Workspace Starter offer for qualifying customers, but eligibility is not universal. Confirm the duration, renewal price, billing period and eligibility conditions rather than assuming a promotional first year is the ongoing rate.

Do the plans include the same tools?

At equivalent Workspace tiers, the core productivity stack is broadly the same whichever company bills the account. Both routes lead to custom-domain Gmail and Google’s collaboration tools; the reseller relationship does not turn the service into an email-only product.

Capability Business Starter Business Standard What it means for a small business
Custom-domain email Included Included Use Gmail at your company domain rather than a consumer address.
Storage 30 GB per user 2 TB per user Standard is more suitable when shared files, media or long-term document retention matter.

Core apps Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Meet and Chat Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Meet and Chat Both are collaboration suites, not simply mailbox hosting.
Gemini features Gemini in Gmail listed by Google Broader Gemini features listed by Google Review current plan documentation if AI features are a buying requirement.

Business Starter

Google’s 2026 Business Starter documentation lists 30 GB of storage per user, custom business email, Calendar, Drive and Meet, Gemini in Gmail, and meetings for up to 100 people. Google also states that Business Starter supports up to 300 users for business-email signups. That is the plan’s stated user ceiling for that signup context, not a recommendation that every small organization should use one account per employee without considering its administration needs.

Starter can be adequate for a small team that mainly exchanges email, stores ordinary office documents and holds modest-size meetings. Storage is assigned per user, so estimate the number of licensed accounts and the files each person will retain rather than assuming the business has one large anonymous pool.

Business Standard

Google’s current Business Standard documentation lists 2 TB of storage per user, meeting recording, meetings for up to 150 people, and broader Gemini features, in addition to the productivity suite. The larger storage allowance can matter for design files, client deliverables, shared folders and recorded meetings. It is a tier choice based on workflow, not a Squarespace-only upgrade.

Business Plus is listed at a higher price by both vendors, but the cited plan details here do not provide a basis for adding specific Plus feature claims. Do not infer that every advanced security, storage or compliance capability is included simply because Plus costs more; check the live plan specification for those requirements.

When email-only may be enough

Squarespace describes Workspace as suited to teams needing email plus collaboration tools, while it positions Titan for individuals and small businesses needing professional email. If your daily work depends on shared documents, cloud storage, video meetings or broader team collaboration, compare Workspace tiers. If you mainly need a branded inbox and calendar or contacts, Titan may be a different category of solution—but verify its current feature set against your actual workflow before choosing it.

What changes when Squarespace bills the account?

The practical trade-off is convenience versus a split account relationship. With Squarespace, signup, invoices, eligibility and some user-management tasks appear in Squarespace, while staff open Gmail, Calendar and documents through Google. With a direct purchase, Google is both the billing provider and the service provider.

Billing and account management

Buying through Squarespace can keep website, domain and Workspace billing tasks closer together, which is useful if a business is already organizing a new web presence there. It also means that billing questions and some administrative actions start in Squarespace rather than Google. A preference for a single dashboard should be weighed against the recurring list-price premium and the fact that the working email and collaboration apps remain Google services.

Consider who should own the administrator login and billing relationship if a web designer, founder or agency sets up the account. A business should retain control of its domain, Workspace administrator credentials, invoices and recovery information. The reseller model does not remove the need for ordinary account-governance planning.

Who handles support?

Squarespace Customer Support covers the Workspace panel inside Squarespace, billing and invoices, eligibility, signup and user management. Squarespace directs customers to Google for broader Workspace product questions and documentation, including migration, MX records and core Gmail, Calendar and Drive issues. This split matters when choosing a provider: the company that sends the invoice may not be the team that resolves every email or DNS question.

For a billing problem, start with Squarespace when Squarespace is the reseller. For a Gmail behavior, Drive setting, Calendar issue, migration question or MX-record change, expect to use Google’s Workspace guidance. Document this boundary for whoever handles administration so a time-sensitive mail problem is not sent to the wrong support queue.

Do I need a Squarespace website to use Google Workspace with a Squarespace domain?

No. Squarespace says a website is not required to use Google Workspace with a Squarespace domain; setup may be available through a domain parking page as well as through a website. Domain, account and country eligibility rules still apply.

A custom domain is required for branded business email, such as an address at your company’s domain. If you are buying a new domain and building a site through Squarespace, the reseller route may fit naturally into that setup. If you only need domain-based email, the absence of a Squarespace website does not by itself rule out Workspace through Squarespace, but confirm your eligibility before planning the purchase.

Do not treat a parked domain as a shortcut around verification or DNS work. The domain still has to be eligible and correctly associated with the account, and mail delivery depends on the required records. Squarespace specifically directs customers to Google for MX-record and broader technical guidance.

Can I move an existing Google Workspace account to Squarespace?

Do not assume you can simply connect an existing Workspace domain to Squarespace. The integration is designed for new Google Workspace accounts, and moving a domain already attached to a direct Google account or another reseller may require freeing it first.

Squarespace warns that freeing the domain can remove it from the existing Workspace account and rename affected users. That makes a switch potentially disruptive to sign-in and account administration, not just a change to which company sends the bill. If your email is hosted elsewhere, a migration may be possible, but it requires coordination with the current host.

Before changing providers

  • Identify whether the domain is already attached to a direct Google Workspace account or a different reseller.
  • Ask the current provider what happens to users and mailboxes if the domain is released or transferred.
  • Inventory aliases, groups, calendars, Drive files and third-party sign-ins that use the existing domain.
  • Plan the migration with the current host before changing account ownership or domain configuration.
  • Confirm which company will handle billing, user administration and technical support after the change.
  • Schedule any DNS or account changes outside critical customer-contact periods and retain a recovery contact.

These are planning checks, not a migration procedure: the exact work depends on the current host and account configuration. For core migration and MX-record questions, Squarespace points customers to Google’s Workspace guidance.

The safest default for an established Workspace account is usually to keep its existing billing relationship unless there is a compelling reason to change. The apparent saving from a different reseller can be outweighed by account renaming, service interruption, data-transfer work and administrative confusion.

Common pitfalls in the comparison

  • Comparing unlike billing periods. A Squarespace annual figure and Google’s monthly list price are not equivalent until both are expressed over the same period.
  • Counting a future promotion as today’s price. The 16% annual-commitment promotion shown by Google was dated to start November 12, 2026, after the October 30 snapshot.
  • Assuming “Professional Email” means email only. In this context it refers to Google Workspace through Squarespace; Titan is the separate email-only option.
  • Assuming a website is mandatory. Squarespace says setup can be available through a parked domain, subject to eligibility.
  • Moving an existing domain casually. Releasing a domain can remove it from an existing Workspace account and rename users.
  • Expecting one support team to handle everything. Squarespace handles reseller, billing and eligibility matters; Google handles broader Workspace product and technical topics.
  • Choosing a tier by price alone. Storage, meeting size and recording requirements can make Standard a better operational fit than Starter, even though Starter is cheaper.

Which option should a small business choose?

Choose based on the account relationship and setup you want, not on the assumption that Squarespace provides a different version of Gmail. The core Workspace tools are broadly comparable at equivalent tiers, while list pricing, billing, support boundaries and eligibility differ.

Buy Google Workspace directly when

  • You want the lower standard monthly list price at Starter, Standard or Plus.
  • You want Google to be the primary billing and account relationship.
  • You expect email to remain independent of a Squarespace website, or you already have an established Workspace setup.
  • You already use Workspace through Google or another reseller and want to avoid a potentially disruptive domain change.
  • You want one provider responsible for both the subscription invoice and the core Workspace account relationship.

Buy through Squarespace when

  • You are setting up a new Squarespace domain and website and value keeping billing and some administration in one place.
  • You qualify for the eligible first-year Google Workspace Starter offer shown in Squarespace plans.
  • You are comfortable paying the listed recurring premium compared with Google’s standard monthly pricing.
  • You understand that Squarespace handles reseller and account matters while Google handles broader Workspace product support.
  • You have confirmed that your country, domain and account qualify and that no existing Workspace account is attached to the domain.

Consider Essential Email by Titan when

  • Your main requirement is a branded inbox and calendar or contacts, rather than the wider Workspace collaboration suite.
  • You do not need shared Docs, Drive collaboration, Meet recordings or the broader Google productivity stack.
  • You have verified that its current feature set covers the business’s real needs and understand that it is a separate service.

For a typical small business choosing on the October 30, 2026 US list-price snapshot, direct Google Workspace is the stronger long-term value. The Squarespace route is a reasonable convenience choice for an eligible new setup, but it is not a cheaper or fundamentally different Workspace plan.

How should you compare the offers before checkout?

Use the plan tier and billing period that match your real needs. Comparing one provider’s annual price with the other provider’s monthly price can make the difference look larger or smaller than it is, and the future-dated Google promotion should not be silently counted as an active discount.

  1. Choose the tier first. Starter, Standard and Plus are the comparable Workspace tiers in the stated price snapshot. Use the published storage and meeting details for Starter and Standard to decide whether those tiers meet your workflow; do not infer unlisted Plus features from its higher price.
  2. Count licensed users accurately. Each employee, contractor or shared mailbox arrangement may have different account requirements. Multiply the per-user price by the actual number of paid users, then add applicable taxes and any separate website or domain costs.
  3. Compare the same billing basis. Squarespace lists both monthly and annual charges. Google’s quoted prices are standard monthly list prices, so check Google’s live terms if you are considering an annual commitment.
  4. Check who is eligible. Squarespace’s first-year Starter offer is eligibility-dependent. Do not assume it applies to an existing customer, an existing Workspace account or every country.
  5. Account for the support path. If your team often needs help with Workspace features or domain records, note that Squarespace directs those broader product and technical questions to Google.
  6. Protect any existing setup. If the domain is already connected to Workspace, understand the consequences of releasing it before initiating a switch.
  7. Decide whether collaboration is essential. If your workflow is only branded email and basic contacts or calendars, compare Titan separately. If documents, storage and meetings are central, stay within the Workspace comparison.

Those checks help separate an introductory offer from the recurring cost and a billing convenience from a service difference. The longer the email account is expected to remain in place, the more important the ongoing price and account portability become.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Squarespace Professional Email actually Google Workspace?

For this comparison, yes. Squarespace is a Google Workspace reseller, so Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Meet and Chat are Google services even when Squarespace handles billing and some account tasks. Essential Email by Titan is a separate product.

Is Google Workspace cheaper through Google?

On the October 30, 2026 US standard monthly list-price snapshot, yes: $7/$14/$22 per user for Starter, Standard and Plus bought directly from Google versus $8.40/$16.80/$26.40 through Squarespace. Taxes, promotions and annual-commitment terms can change a final bill.

How many people can use Google Workspace Business Starter?

Google’s 2026 documentation says Business Starter supports up to 300 users for business-email signups. The limit is stated for that signup context; confirm the current terms for your account before provisioning a larger team.

Can I use a Squarespace domain without publishing a website?

Squarespace says Google Workspace setup can be available through a domain parking page, so an active website is not a prerequisite. Eligibility for the account, domain and country still applies.

What happens if I release a domain from an existing Workspace account?

Squarespace warns that freeing the domain can remove it from the existing account and rename affected users. Check the consequences with the current provider before making a transfer or billing change.

Who supports my account if I buy Workspace through Squarespace?

Squarespace handles the Workspace panel inside Squarespace, billing, invoices, eligibility, signup and some user management. Squarespace directs broader Gmail, Calendar, Drive, migration and MX-record questions to Google.

What is the difference between Squarespace Essential Email and Google Workspace?

Essential Email by Titan is an email-focused alternative for a branded inbox and basic calendar or contacts. Google Workspace includes the broader Google collaboration stack, including Drive, Docs, Sheets, Meet and Chat, so it is the better category for teams that work in shared documents and meetings.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Buy Google Workspace directly from Google for the lower standard monthly price and a direct Google account relationship. Choose Squarespace’s reseller route when you are creating a new eligible Squarespace domain setup and the convenience of combined billing is worth the recurring premium. Treat Titan as a separate email-only option, and do not move an existing Workspace domain without planning for account and user changes.
