Spotify acquired WhoSampled, the music-discovery service known for mapping samples, remixes, and covers. The deal was announced in November 2025. WhoSampled’s founder said the service would continue as a standalone platform and brand, while Spotify has since introduced SongDNA, an interactive feature in Spotify’s Now Playing view powered by WhoSampled’s data.
What Spotify’s WhoSampled acquisition means
WhoSampled focuses on connections between recordings: which tracks sample, remix, or cover other music. Spotify is bringing that kind of discovery into its listening experience through SongDNA, letting listeners explore relationships around a track rather than stopping at the track itself.
The available announcements establish the acquisition and its broad product rationale, but do not disclose the purchase price, transaction structure, or detailed financial terms. No deal value has been announced in the cited sources.
What is Spotify SongDNA?
Spotify announced SongDNA in beta on March 24, 2026. It appears in the Now Playing view and lets listeners explore a song’s writers, producers, collaborators, samples, interpolations, and covers, then follow connections to other creators and tracks. Spotify describes the feature as a way to make a song’s creative lineage easier to explore.

SongDNA’s beta was described as rolling out to Premium users. The announcements do not establish that it is available for every track, account, territory, or device, so availability may vary.

Credits and musical influences can lead listeners to music they might not otherwise find. A sample can point back to an older recording; a cover can reveal how another artist reinterpreted a song; and writer or producer credits can connect tracks across an artist’s catalog. SongDNA makes those relationships explorable from the listening screen.
