SpaceX launched the Transporter-18 rideshare mission on October 1, 2026, carrying 130 payloads to low Earth orbit aboard a Falcon 9 from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. Payload deployment reportedly began about 54.5 minutes after liftoff. The mission included technology demonstrations and satellite-servicing hardware alongside customer spacecraft.
When and where did Transporter-18 launch?
SpaceX’s mission listing identifies Transporter-18 as a Falcon 9 launch from Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, on October 1, 2026. Space.com reported liftoff at 18:32 UTC, or 11:32 a.m. local time in California. SpaceX’s mission listing Space.com’s launch report
Space.com reported that the first stage returned to Vandenberg about 7.5 minutes after liftoff, on its 25th flight. The outlet also reported that payload deployment began about 54.5 minutes after launch and continued for roughly 11 minutes. Those are timings reported for this mission, not general Falcon 9 performance figures. Space.com Space.com’s payload report
What flew on Transporter-18?
Space.com reported that Transporter-18 carried 130 payloads to low Earth orbit. The mix included CubeSats, microsatellites, hosted payloads, spacecraft with reentry vehicles, and orbital transfer vehicles. SpaceX’s mission description, as reported by Space.com, said four orbital transfer vehicles carried 41 payloads for later deployment. A complete mission manifest is not established by the available accounts. Space.com’s launch report Space.com’s payload report

Google Project Suncatcher: testing computing hardware in space
Google’s Project Suncatcher pathfinder was intended to test how tensor processing units (TPUs) perform in the space environment, including their exposure to radiation and the challenge of dissipating heat generated by the chips. It is a technology test, not evidence of an operational orbital data center. Space.com
Cowboy Space Reason-1: demonstrating power beaming
Cowboy Space described Reason-1’s intended task as demonstrating power beaming from low Earth orbit to a receiver on the ground. Axios also characterized the flight as an early-stage experiment. The mission therefore carried a test of energy transfer, not proof of a mature power-delivery service. Space.com Axios

How the rideshare launch worked
Transporter-18 was a dedicated rideshare mission: multiple payloads shared one Falcon 9 launch, with some spacecraft carried on orbital transfer vehicles for later deployment. Falcon 9 is a two-stage rocket powered by liquid oxygen and rocket-grade kerosene (RP-1), according to SpaceX’s general Falcon Payload User’s Guide. That guide provides background on the vehicle family; it does not document Transporter-18’s specific configuration or telemetry. SpaceX Falcon Payload User’s Guide

Why the payloads matter
The examples on Transporter-18 represent different goals rather than competing versions of the same product: Project Suncatcher tested computing hardware in space, Reason-1 sought to demonstrate energy transfer to Earth, and Otter flew as a satellite-servicing vehicle. Each is best understood as a distinct technology or service effort, not as proof that the capability is already operational at scale.
