SpaceX’s quarter ended September 30, 2026, was exceptional because three businesses expanded at once. Revenue reached $14.6 billion, up 161% from a year earlier; net income was $4.4 billion; and adjusted EBITDA was $8.8 billion. Super Intelligence supplied the largest share of sales, Connectivity (mainly Starlink) provided rapidly growing recurring revenue, and launch operations added another $1.8 billion.

That mix matters. This was not simply a record rocket quarter. SpaceX’s reported figures show a company combining satellite internet, cloud and AI services, and launch infrastructure—each with different growth rates, margins, capital needs, and execution risks.

How large was SpaceX’s third quarter?

The quarter was unusually large in both absolute profit and growth. SpaceX’s Q3 2026 earnings release reports $14.6 billion in revenue, 161% year-over-year growth, $4.4 billion in net income, and $8.8 billion in adjusted EBITDA.

Was the growth mostly Starlink, launches, or the AI business?

By reported dollars, Super Intelligence was the biggest contributor. Starlink was the larger established operating engine, with a growing subscriber base and recurring monthly billing, while the launch business remained strategically important but smaller in this quarter’s revenue mix.

Super Intelligence revenue was $7.560 billion. Connectivity generated $5.248 billion, and Space generated $1.767 billion. Looking only at launch count would therefore miss the main financial story: the largest revenue pool came from cloud and AI-related activity, not from rockets.

Why did Super Intelligence revenue surge?

SpaceX says Super Intelligence revenue rose 195% sequentially and 830% year over year, primarily because of new cloud-services agreements, the acquisition of Cursor, and greater Grok adoption. Those drivers combine contracted infrastructure demand with acquired and internally developed AI software activity.

The segment recorded $431 million in operating income and $5.0 billion in adjusted EBITDA. The difference is important: SpaceX also recorded $1.2 billion of share-based compensation connected with the Cursor acquisition. That expense reduced reported operating income even as the segment showed a much larger adjusted EBITDA figure.

Because the filing groups these activities into one segment, the quarter does not establish how much revenue came from each cloud customer, software product, or usage pattern. It does establish that AI and cloud services were no longer a marginal experiment in SpaceX’s financial statements.

How did Starlink lift the Connectivity business?

Connectivity revenue increased 69% year over year. Consumer revenue grew 57%, while enterprise and government revenue grew 91%, giving SpaceX a broad base of demand beyond household broadband.

Starlink consumer subscribers reached 13.6 million, an increase of 1.6 million from the previous quarter. Monthly consumer average revenue per user was $69. SpaceX says consumer ARPU fell 16.9% from a year earlier as it expanded internationally and added lower-priced plans, so subscriber growth came with a lower average price per account.

The network also expanded in aviation: more than 3,800 aircraft were equipped with Starlink. That figure measures aircraft installations, not passenger counts or flight hours, but it demonstrates that Connectivity growth includes a specialized mobility market alongside residential service.

SpaceX’s filing also identifies Starlink Kit deliveries as a year-over-year cost driver. The reference confirms that customer equipment remains part of the delivery and cost equation; it does not verify a particular retail listing, hardware generation, seller, or price.

What did the launch business contribute?

Space revenue was $1.767 billion, up 6% year over year and 84% sequentially. SpaceX completed 12 customer launches during the quarter and reported 35 launches in total when internal missions are included.

Starship Flight 14 was described as the first orbital Starship flight and delivered 26 Starlink V3 satellites. SpaceX said the mission added approximately ten times the downlink capacity of a Falcon 9 Starlink launch. That capacity claim points to the long-term network economics of Starship, although future value still depends on repeatable flights, satellite deployment, and operational reliability.

The company also announced planned development of Starbase, Louisiana, with the first launch targeted for 2029. A target date is a development milestone, not a guaranteed service date; construction, licensing, testing, and flight outcomes can change the schedule.

Is SpaceX becoming as much an internet and AI company as a rocket company?

Financially, yes: this quarter’s revenue mix makes SpaceX’s non-launch businesses impossible to treat as side projects. Super Intelligence was the largest segment, and Connectivity supplied a substantial, fast-growing stream of customer payments. Space remains the foundation that enables satellite deployment and launch services, but it was not the dominant source of Q3 revenue.

The businesses have different economic profiles:

  • Super Intelligence: exceptionally fast reported growth, but influenced by acquisitions, cloud-contract timing, and substantial share-based compensation.
  • Connectivity: recurring subscriptions with visible subscriber metrics, balanced by equipment costs, network investment, pricing mix, and international expansion.
  • Space: launch and mission revenue tied to contracts and flight cadence, with high capital intensity and significant execution risk.

That combination can create operating leverage when infrastructure is used at greater scale, but it also means a weak quarter in one business may be masked by strength in another. Analysts should evaluate growth, recurring versus contract-driven revenue, operating profitability, subscriber scale, capital intensity, and execution risk separately rather than treating SpaceX as a single-product company.

What qualifications matter when reading the headline numbers?

First, adjusted EBITDA is not the same as net income. EBITDA-based measures remove items such as depreciation and amortization, interest, and taxes, and SpaceX’s adjusted presentation also reflects other specified adjustments. Net income is the reported bottom-line figure, while adjusted EBITDA is intended to show operating performance before those deductions.

Second, the Super Intelligence result includes major acquisition-related share-based compensation. The $1.2 billion charge tied to Cursor does not represent a cash payment in the quarter, but it is still an economic cost to existing shareholders and explains why operating income is far below adjusted EBITDA.

Third, Connectivity growth should not be read as pure price-led expansion. Subscriber additions were strong, but the 16.9% year-over-year decline in consumer ARPU shows that international mix and lower-priced plans affected the average. Revenue growth therefore depends on adding enough accounts and higher-value enterprise users to offset that mix pressure.

Finally, a single quarter cannot prove that the reported growth rates will persist. Cloud agreements can be signed or recognized unevenly, launch schedules can slip, and satellite-network economics depend on continued capital spending and reliable deployment.

What should readers watch after this quarter?

The most revealing follow-up indicators are whether Super Intelligence revenue remains broad-based beyond acquisition effects, whether Starlink subscriber additions continue without further ARPU pressure, and whether enterprise, government, and aviation growth maintains its lead over consumer expansion.

On the infrastructure side, repeat Starship flights, V3 satellite deployment, and progress toward the Louisiana launch site will show whether the capacity and cadence described in the filing can become routine. Cash generation, research and development spending, and the treatment of future acquisition-related compensation will also determine how much of the headline EBITDA converts into durable shareholder value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can adjusted EBITDA be so much higher than net income?

Adjusted EBITDA is calculated before depreciation, amortization, interest, and taxes, and a company may remove additional items it considers unusual. Net income includes those costs under accounting rules, so the two measures answer different questions and should not be used interchangeably.

Does SpaceX disclose exactly how much of Connectivity revenue is recurring?

The reported segment total and subscriber metrics show a subscription component, but the quarter’s filing does not provide a precise recurring-revenue percentage. Launch-related connectivity equipment and enterprise contracts can also affect the timing and composition of reported sales.

Could Starlink subscriber growth slow even if demand remains strong?

Yes. Growth can be constrained by satellite capacity, local approvals, installation logistics, service availability, or the company’s decision to prioritize network quality over new sign-ups. SpaceX did not guarantee that the quarter’s sequential addition would repeat.

What does the aircraft installation figure actually measure?

It counts aircraft equipped with Starlink hardware, a deployment measure for the aviation business. It is not the same as the number of airlines, routes, passengers, or aircraft using the service at any particular moment.
