The Solidigm P44 Pro is a high-spec PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD for a compatible PC or other device with an M.2 2280 slot. Its published peak sequential-read rating reaches 7,000 MB/s, but that is a specification—not a promise of everyday or sustained performance. Tom’s Hardware’s 2022–23 review provides historical independent testing; this article does not add new benchmark results. Whether the drive is worth buying depends on your device, capacity needs, cooling, and the price available where you shop.
What the Solidigm P44 Pro offers
The P44 Pro is an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD using a PCIe 4.0 x4 interface and NVMe 1.4. Solidigm’s product brief lists 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities. Solidigm positions it for gaming and content creation, and describes power and thermal efficiency as design aims; those are manufacturer claims, not independent proof that the drive will avoid throttling in every system. Solidigm’s product brief calls it “spectacular” PCIe Generation 4 performance, which should be read as marketing language alongside the specifications and independent results.
How fast is the P44 Pro?
Solidigm specifies sequential reads of up to 7,000 MB/s. Tom’s Hardware’s specification table lists sequential writes of 4,700 MB/s for the 512GB model and 6,500 MB/s for the 1TB and 2TB models. These are rated peak sequential figures, not guaranteed transfer speeds for every file, workload, computer, or fill state.
| Capacity | Rated sequential read | Rated sequential write | Endurance rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| 512GB | Up to 7,000 MB/s (Solidigm product brief) | 4,700 MB/s (Tom’s Hardware, 2023) | 500 TBW (Tom’s Hardware, 2023) |
| 1TB | Up to 7,000 MB/s (Solidigm product brief) | 6,500 MB/s (Tom’s Hardware, 2023) | 750 TBW (Tom’s Hardware, 2023) |
| 2TB | Up to 7,000 MB/s (Solidigm product brief) | 6,500 MB/s (Tom’s Hardware, 2023) | 1,200 TBW (Tom’s Hardware, 2023) |
Tom’s Hardware published its review on December 13, 2022, and added 1TB performance results on January 3, 2023. Its testing compared the P44 Pro with drives including the WD Black SN850X, Kingston Fury Renegade, Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G, Samsung 980 Pro, SK hynix Platinum P41, and Crucial P5 Plus. The outlet described the P44 Pro as closely related to the SK hynix Platinum P41, with minor firmware differences. Those results are useful historical context, not a current market ranking or a substitute for testing your own workload. Read Tom’s Hardware’s review and test context.

Is the P44 Pro compatible with your PC or PS5?
Compatibility starts with the physical and interface requirements: the host must accept an M.2 2280 NVMe SSD. The P44 Pro uses PCIe 4.0 x4. A host with a suitable slot may support it, but the device’s manual or manufacturer requirements determine whether that slot accepts this form factor and whether the drive will operate at its full interface speed. PCIe generations can be backward compatible, but a slower host can limit performance; do not assume a specific PC or console is compatible without checking its requirements.
For a PS5, consult Sony’s current storage-expansion requirements and your console model before buying. Confirm dimensions, interface and any required cooling clearance against the console’s installation guidance. The fact that the P44 Pro is an M.2 NVMe drive does not by itself establish compatibility with every PC or PS5 configuration.

Does the P44 Pro include a heatsink?
No heatsink is included, according to Tom’s Hardware. Whether you need a separate heatsink depends on the host: some motherboards and devices provide an M.2 cover or cooling solution, while others do not. Check the device instructions, available clearance, and any required cooling before adding an aftermarket heatsink; a heatsink that does not fit the slot or enclosure is not a useful upgrade.
Power, software, warranty, and endurance
Power and Solidigm Synergy
Solidigm reported that the drive used 5.3 W in its own testing while meeting or exceeding published performance specifications. The figure is manufacturer-reported, not an independent measurement, and does not establish power draw in another system or workload. Solidigm also offers Synergy software free of charge as an optional tool intended to improve communication between the SSD and a Windows PC. Solidigm’s product brief presents Synergy as part of its client-storage offering; it is not a requirement to use the SSD.

Endurance and warranty
Tom’s Hardware lists endurance ratings of 500, 750, and 1,200 TBW for the 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities, respectively. TBW means terabytes written and is a rated endurance limit, not a forecast of exactly when a drive will fail. Solidigm’s warranty page lists a five-year limited warranty for the P44 Pro. Confirm that the warranty applies to the exact model and region, and review the applicable terms before purchase. Check Solidigm’s warranty information.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Solidigm P44 Pro worth it?
The specifications make the P44 Pro a compelling option to consider when you need a fast PCIe 4.0 M.2 drive and your host supports it. The 1TB and 2TB models have higher listed sequential-write ratings than the 512GB version, while the larger capacities also carry higher TBW ratings. Those advantages do not establish that the P44 Pro is the best-value SSD today: current prices, stock, regional availability, and competitor pricing have not been verified here. Compare live listings for the exact capacity and model, then weigh sustained and random-workload results, cooling, warranty, and the needs of your system rather than relying on peak sequential numbers alone.

Solidigm announced the P44 Pro on October 18, 2022. Its age and the historical nature of the available independent review make current market comparisons especially dependent on present pricing and newer test data. Solidigm’s launch announcement also stated up to 7,000 MB/s sequential reads; that remains a vendor specification, not a current independent benchmark.
