One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchIf Snapchat says, “Due to repeated failed attempts or other unusual activity, my access to Snapchat is temporarily disabled,” stop trying to log in. If you’re sure your login details are correct, Snapchat recommends waiting 48 hours before trying again. That is guidance, not a guarantee of an automatic unlock. Check the exact message and any error code first: a temporary account lock and a device ban have different recovery options.
What to do first
- Save the exact message and error code. The wording can help distinguish a temporary disablement from an account lock or device restriction.
- If it is the repeated-attempt message and your credentials are correct, wait 48 hours before another login attempt. Snapchat Support recommends this interval for that situation; it does not promise every restriction will end exactly then. See Snapchat’s temporary-disablement guidance.
- When you retry, enter the correct login details. If your connection is unstable, Snapchat’s login troubleshooting guidance suggests trying a different Wi-Fi network.
Repeated attempts in a short period are one documented reason Snapchat may temporarily disable access. The message alone does not establish the cause in your particular case, identify who or what triggered it, or show that a specific device is responsible.
Use the error code to identify the restriction
| Code or message | What Snapchat says it means | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Repeated-attempt temporary-disablement message | Access may be temporarily disabled after repeated failed attempts or unusual activity. | If your credentials are correct, wait 48 hours before trying again. |
| SS02 | A temporary login ban on that device after repeated failed attempts. | Wait a while before trying again; Snapchat does not state a fixed duration for SS02 in its troubleshooting guidance. |
| SS04 | The account being used is locked. | If the lock is temporary, sign in to the Accounts Portal and use the Unlock option if it is offered. |
| SS06 or SS18 | A device ban. | This differs from a temporary account lock. Snapchat says Support cannot unban a device. |
| SS07 | A device restriction associated with too many accounts on that device. | Use Snapchat’s official error guidance; Support says it cannot unban a device. |
These meanings and remedies are described in Snapchat’s login issue and error-code guidance and locked-account guidance. A device restriction is not the same as an account lock, so an Accounts Portal unlock is not a remedy for a device ban.
If Snapchat says your account is temporarily locked
For a temporary account lock, try the Accounts Portal’s Unlock option if it is available for your account. Snapchat also advises waiting 48 hours before retrying when an account is temporarily locked for another reason. Follow the message shown for your account, since the available option and lock circumstances can differ.

If you used an unauthorized app or plugin
Snapchat says an unauthorized third-party app or plugin can lead to a temporary lock. Check the lock-period instructions in the Snapchat app or the email about the lock. Remove the unauthorized app or plugin, wait until the stated period ends, and update Snapchat before signing in again. Follow the duration Snapchat gives rather than assuming the general 48-hour recommendation applies to every lock.
If Snapchat says the account is permanently locked
Recovery is not guaranteed. For some eligible permanent locks, Snapchat’s stated appeal route is inside the app: log in and select Appeal Decision when that option appears. Eligibility varies, and Snapchat says Support cannot manually unlock a permanently locked account. See its locked-account guidance.

Why access may be unavailable longer
Snapchat lists a Terms violation by one account among multiple accounts as one possible reason access to Snapchat on a device may be unavailable for an extended period. That possibility does not establish what caused an individual person’s message. Snapchat’s Terms of Service say the company may restrict, terminate, or temporarily suspend access; for actions based on Community Guidelines violations, the Terms describe notice and an opportunity to appeal.
