How do turn signals and crash alerts work?
UNIT 1 AURA
The AURA’s indicators are controlled by a separate Remote, which offers blinker, half-sweep and full-sweep modes. UNIT 1 says the core lights, turn signals and brake light can work without the app, while Crash Alert and Safety ID require it. LIVALL BH51T
LIVALL says the BH51T detects a fall and sends an SMS with GPS location to preset emergency contacts after 90 seconds. That means the feature depends on the phone and contact setup needed to send the message; confirm the setup and connectivity requirements before relying on it. The alert is a notification aid, not a guarantee that help will arrive.

UNIT 1 Smart Light
UNIT 1’s separate Smart Light is a useful reference for the brand’s lighting options, but it is not the AURA helmet itself. UNIT 1 lists 100 lumens of white output and 50 lumens of red output, with up to 3 hours at full solid brightness or up to 32 hours in 50% beacon mode. What should you compare before choosing?
Certification and intended riding speed
Check the certification listed for the exact helmet and consider the kind of bike you ride. NTA-8776 appears in the AURA and Sena U1 listings and is relevant to higher-speed e-bike use; the BH51T listing names CPSC 1203 and EN1078, but does not list NTA-8776. Certifications vary by model and region, so verify the applicable version before buying. Electronics do not compensate for a poor fit or the wrong helmet for your riding conditions.

Phone, Remote and contact dependencies

Visibility and how other road users interpret signals
Helmet indicators can make a rider’s intended turn more visible, but their placement differs from separated vehicle indicators. In its AURA review, Cyclingnews found the indicator patterns potentially useful while questioning whether a single helmet light is as unambiguous in busy traffic. Continue using clear hand signals where appropriate and do not assume drivers have noticed an electronic indicator.

Cyclingnews’ 2026 review reported AURA prices of £200, $270 or €230, and listed a £230 Ride Pack that included the Remote and visor. The review noted that the Remote was not included in the listed base price.
