SkyCity Entertainment Group says it will shortly begin a formal process to seek proposals for its Adelaide casino business, with UBS leading the process. The announcement is not a sale: SkyCity has named no bidders, disclosed no price or deadline, and given no date for completion. In parallel, it says negotiations with South Australia’s casino regulator on a binding agreement are well advanced.
What SkyCity has announced
In a 30 September 2026 market release, SkyCity said it would “shortly commence a formal sale process” for its Adelaide business. UBS will lead the process, which is intended to seek proposals from credible parties that had already made inquiries after SkyCity announced a strategic review on 20 August, as well as from other interested parties. The company did not identify any of them. SkyCity’s NZX announcement does not say that it has received a binding bid or agreed to sell.
“Shortly” is the company’s wording, not a specific launch date. The release gives no bid deadline, transaction timetable or completion date, and does not guarantee that the process will produce a sale.

SkyCity separately reported a A$43 million write-down in the Adelaide business’s accounting carrying value in its 20 August 2026 investor presentation. That is an accounting figure, not a disclosed sale valuation, offer or expected proceeds. The presentation also said the Adelaide B3 (Building a Better Business) compliance programme was then expected to receive final approval in early FY28, citing the pace of design approvals and delays to casino systems; it does not establish that the programme has since been approved or completed. Regulatory negotiations are proceeding alongside the sale review
SkyCity said on 30 September that it was well advanced in negotiating a binding agreement with the South Australian Commissioner for Liquor and Gambling. The negotiations follow non-binding heads of agreement announced on 19 June 2026; the later announcement does not say that the binding agreement has been signed. SkyCity’s September market release
The June proposal set out a A$21 million fine, payable in three A$7 million instalments, alongside proposed governance, compliance and operational commitments. These were terms of non-binding heads of agreement while the parties expected to finalise a formal tripartite deed—not confirmation that a binding deed had taken effect. Why the regulator’s agreement matters
Consumer and Business Services South Australia said the regulatory action followed an independent review by retired Supreme Court Judge Brian Martin and other issues identified by the regulator. The concerns included failures relating to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing obligations, gambling harm minimisation, and workplace culture. CBS South Australia’s 19 June release
The proposed changes described by SkyCity included an independent Adelaide board, locally accountable leadership, an independent compliance auditor and operational obligations. The Commissioner framed the expectations in the June release this way: “This should send a clear message to South Australians that the failings of the past are completely unacceptable, and we are expecting them—as the owners and operators of South Australia’s only casino—to do better in future.” CBS South Australia
