SiteOrigin Page Builder is a free WordPress plugin for arranging widgets into rows and columns to build responsive page layouts. Its optional Premium subscription adds paid addons, updates, and priority email support. It may suit site owners who want a grid-based layout workflow, but compatibility and performance depend on the actual WordPress site; the available product claims do not establish independent benchmarks or universal compatibility.
What SiteOrigin Page Builder does
SiteOrigin presents Page Builder as a structural layout tool: add widgets to rows and columns, then let the grid adapt to different screen sizes. The selected theme controls much of the site’s presentation. SiteOrigin says the plugin integrates with the Block Editor and works with themes, and lists developer hooks and filters for customization. These are vendor descriptions, not guarantees that every theme or plugin combination will behave as intended. SiteOrigin’s product page
The plugin is not itself a theme or a full site-hosting service. It provides a way to compose page layouts within a WordPress installation. Whether that approach fits depends on your preferred editing workflow, the widgets you need, and how the resulting pages behave on your site.
What is free, and what does Premium add?
The core Page Builder plugin is free. SiteOrigin says its free plugins can be used on any number of websites. Premium is an annual subscription for addon downloads, license-key update notifications, and priority email support; the paid subscription is separate from the core plugin. Premium plans listed on October 4, 2026
| Plan | Listed annual price | Site allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Personal | $29/year | 1 site |
| Business | $49/year | Up to 5 sites |
| Developer | $99/year | Unlimited sites |
The Premium page lists 45 addons and advertises a 60-day money-back guarantee alongside those plans. Prices and terms are the page’s listed offer accessed October 4, 2026, and may change. Check the current terms before subscribing. SiteOrigin Premium
According to SiteOrigin’s general licensing page, if a Premium subscription ends, existing content remains, but Premium addons stop receiving updates and support ends. The free plugins are unaffected. That distinction matters if a site relies on a paid addon: continued access to existing content is not the same as continued maintenance or support.

Is it compatible with your WordPress site?
SiteOrigin’s product page lists WordPress 5.0+ and PHP 7.4+ and references Block Editor compatibility. A WordPress.org search result surfaced a Page Builder 2.34.5 changelog entry dated July 1, 2026, and a tested-up-to tag of WordPress 7.1. These are separate compatibility signals, not proof that the newest release works with every site or that the plugin is currently tested against every configuration. WordPress.org plugin listing
Before using it on a production site, compare the current plugin requirements with your WordPress and PHP versions, then check your theme and other plugins on a staging copy. Test the pages and editing workflows that matter to you, including mobile layouts. A directory’s tested-up-to tag and a product-page requirement are useful starting points, not a compatibility guarantee.

Performance and output: what is established?
SiteOrigin describes the output as clean and the plugin as lightweight, and promotes performance benefits. Those statements are publisher claims; there is no independent benchmark here showing a particular load-time or PageSpeed improvement. Results can depend on the theme, widgets, hosting, caching, images, and the rest of the site’s code. Do not assume that choosing this builder alone will produce a specific score or make a site faster than one built with another tool.
If front-end speed is a deciding factor, measure the same representative pages under comparable conditions before and after adopting the builder. Also consider how the page looks and functions when scripts or styles load slowly, and what remains if you later disable the plugin. The available product information does not establish a controlled comparison with named competing builders.

How to decide whether Premium is worth it
Start with the free plugin and the layout capabilities you actually need. Consider paying for Premium if its listed addons solve a concrete requirement and the value of subscription updates or priority support justifies the recurring fee. If the free core already supports your layouts and you do not need paid addons or subscription services, the listed Premium benefits may not warrant an annual cost.
- List the widgets, layout controls, and editor workflow your site needs.
- Check that your theme and plugin stack work with the current Page Builder release on staging.
- Decide whether any paid addon is necessary, rather than treating the full addon list as a requirement.
- Compare the annual plan allowance with the number of sites you maintain and confirm current terms before purchase.
- If performance or portability matters, test those outcomes on your own pages instead of relying on general promotional wording.
Ratings, installs, and licensing caveats
SiteOrigin’s product page displayed 500K+ active installs and a 4.8/5 rating from 1,004 reviews when accessed October 4, 2026. Its homepage displayed 400,000+ active installs at the same access snapshot. The pages do not explain the difference, so neither figure should be treated as an independently audited count or evidence of a trend. Product page and SiteOrigin homepage

The published license statements conflict. The product page says GPLv2, and SiteOrigin’s general licensing page says its free plugins are GPL 2.0; a separate Page Builder licensing page says GPL 3.0. If the exact license matters for your technical or commercial use, inspect the license file in the current plugin package rather than assuming these pages agree.
