There is no verified universal winner. SingleFileZ is designed to package webpage resources into a self-extracting archive, and its FAQ describes saving images, stylesheets, frame contents and fonts. The available sources do not establish how Chrome’s built-in Save Page command compares on those measures, and no controlled head-to-head test is available. Which one keeps more depends on the page, what has loaded, capture settings and browser restrictions.
What each method is meant to save
SingleFileZ
SingleFileZ is a self-extracting ZIP-style webpage format. Its project says the feature has been merged into SingleFile, where users can select self-extracting output in the file-format options. The SingleFileZ FAQ says its capture can include images, CSS, frame contents and fonts, including resources present on the page but not displayed or already cached. Chrome Save Page
The reviewed sources do not establish Chrome’s current Save Page formats or how its built-in command handles frames, deferred images, styles or other resources. It would be misleading to claim that Chrome saves less—or more—on any of those measures without authoritative documentation or a reproducible comparison.
How to judge which keeps more
“More” can mean different things: more resources bundled, a closer visual match, more content available offline, or more functionality preserved. A saved page can look complete while scripts and interactive behavior are absent; conversely, a resource can be present in an archive without being visible in the original view.
#1 Best Overall
- Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
- Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
- Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
- Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C
- Resources included: SingleFileZ documents support for images, CSS, frames and fonts. The reviewed evidence does not establish a like-for-like Chrome result.
- Hidden and deferred content: SingleFileZ’s FAQ describes capturing resources that may not be displayed or cached. Settings that omit deferred images or frame capture can leave gaps.
- Offline behavior: SingleFile removes scripts by default because they may alter rendering or fail offline. Interactive features can therefore behave differently in a saved copy.
- Packaging and portability: SingleFileZ creates a self-extracting archive, but opening it depends on browser support and extension access. Chrome requires the SingleFile extension to open SingleFileZ files from the filesystem, according to its FAQ.
- Capture restrictions: Browser extension access to some domains can be blocked. Some sites also require an HTTP Referer header to retrieve images; SingleFile does not enable passing it by default for privacy reasons.
Trade-offs in SingleFile capture settings
More processing can improve completeness but take more time and CPU. SingleFile’s FAQ says disabling removal of hidden elements and unused styles may improve speed. By contrast, disabling frame capture or saving deferred images can mean missing resources. The right settings depend on whether fidelity or a faster, smaller capture matters more for your page.
Scripts are removed by default, so maps, carousels and collapsible titles may not work as they do online. A saved file should be treated as an offline representation, not necessarily an interactive copy of the original site.

- Capacity Display Variance: 500GB external ssd often appears as around 465GB on Windows. MacOS can show full 500 GB capacity. This is binary calculation difference and doesn’t affect SSD hard drive actual physical storage
- 1050 MB/s Speed: Instantly access to your files with blazing-fast 10Gbps external SSD read up to 1050MB/s and write up to 1000MB/s. LED Light indicates USB SSD instant activity
- Data Security: Solid state drives S.M.A.R.T. health diagnostics and adaptive TRIM optimizing data block management ensures consistent write speeds and extends the longevity of the portable SSD
- USB-C & USB-A Cable: Both cables featuring rapid USB 3.2 Gen2, this USB SSD effortlessly bridges devices, enabling seamless cross-platform file transfers and backup between computers, smartphones, tablets and iPhone
- Always Fast: No slowdowns for large file transfers. With SLC caching (25% of current available capacity allocated as high-speed cache), this external SSD delivers steady 10Gbps for transfers within the cache capacity
How to make a fair side-by-side comparison
If you need a winner for a particular workflow, test both methods on the same pages rather than inferring a general result. Use pages with different kinds of content, then inspect the saved outputs offline.
- Choose representative pages, such as a long article with lazy-loaded images, a page with embedded frames, and a page with interactive elements.
- Record the browser version and SingleFile version, and use the same source page and network conditions for both captures.
- For SingleFile, record the file-format and capture options; do not silently disable frame or deferred-image handling if those are part of what you are comparing.
- Open each saved result offline in the browser and inspect visible text, images, fonts, frame content, layout and interactive elements separately.
- Report specific omissions and the test conditions. A small sample can guide your choice, but it is not a universal completeness score.
There is no published capture percentage or controlled comparison establishing which method preserves more overall. SingleFile’s FAQ also says the project is not intended as a professional web-archiving tool and points archivists toward WARC-based tools.

If your goal is a screenshot rather than an offline webpage archive, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns an image or PDF; it does not replace a self-contained saved webpage. Before capture, it accepts consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets, with each step optional. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools for taking screenshots, checking page information and capturing PDFs.
For example, with a ScreenshotNeo API key, this cURL request saves a WebP screenshot of Stripe:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card.
