The Silicon Power PD60 is an external enclosure that lets you use a compatible internal M.2 SSD as portable USB storage. It is not a complete SSD: Silicon Power lists the enclosure and a USB-C-to-USB-C cable, but does not state that a drive is included. Compatibility is limited to M.2 M-key PCIe NVMe or SATA drives in 2230, 2242, 2260, or 2280 lengths.
What the PD60 does
Install a supported M.2 drive in the PD60, connect the enclosure to a computer or mobile device over USB-C, and the drive appears as external storage. This can give an unused laptop or desktop SSD a second life for backups, file transfer, media libraries, or a portable working drive.
Silicon Power describes the installation as tool-free and says, “The PD60 does not require any tools or screws, offering a simple SSD installation that only takes a few seconds.” That is the manufacturer’s description rather than an independently timed test.
Check SSD compatibility before buying
The word “M.2” alone is not enough. Match every attribute below with your SSD:

USB connection and the meaning of 10Gbps
The PD60 is specified for USB 3.2 Gen 2 with an interface rate of up to 10Gbps. That is the maximum link specification, not a measured sustained file-copy speed for the enclosure. Actual transfers depend on the installed SSD, the host port, the cable, file sizes, and other USB or system limits.

The listed cable is USB-C to USB-C. If your computer or other host has only USB-A, you will need a suitable data cable or adapter; the product information does not say that a USB-C-to-USB-A cable is included. A host with a slower USB generation will also limit the connection below the advertised maximum.
Installation and everyday use
- Confirm that the SSD is an M-key NVMe or SATA model in one of the four supported lengths.
- Open the PD60’s slide-style cover and insert the SSD into the connector at the correct angle.
- Secure the drive using the enclosure’s tool-free mechanism, then close the cover.
- Connect the supplied USB-C-to-USB-C cable to the enclosure and a compatible host.
- Initialize, partition, or format the drive in your operating system if it is new or has an incompatible file system. Formatting erases existing data.
Silicon Power describes the enclosure as plug-and-play and operating without an external power supply. Those are manufacturer claims; power behavior can still vary by host and installed drive.

Operating-system claims and device caveats
Silicon Power’s US product page lists Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS 13 or later. A regional Silicon Power eShop listing gives a different Android minimum of 9.0 or later and does not use identical wording. Treat these as market-specific manufacturer claims, and verify the current local listing plus your device’s USB-storage support before relying on a particular phone or tablet.
Desktop operating systems may also prompt you to choose a partition scheme or file system. For sharing between Windows and macOS, exFAT is commonly used, while a system-specific format may be preferable for a single-platform workflow. Choose based on the devices that must read the drive and keep a separate backup of important files.

Who should buy it
It makes sense when you already have a spare compatible SSD
The PD60 is a straightforward way to reuse an M.2 drive removed from an upgraded computer. Confirm the drive’s M-key, NVMe-or-SATA interface, and length first.
Budget for an SSD if you do not own one
The enclosure is not stated to include storage. You will need to purchase a compatible M.2 SSD separately, and the drive’s capacity and performance will determine the resulting portable storage.

Check your host ports and cable plan
For the advertised USB 3.2 Gen 2 link, the host, cable, and operating environment all need to support the relevant USB capability. USB-C connector shape by itself does not guarantee 10Gbps operation.
Limitations to keep in mind
- No independent benchmark establishes a sustained read or write speed for the PD60.
- The advertised 10Gbps figure describes the USB interface, not guaranteed end-to-end SSD performance.
- Compatibility is not universal across every M.2 drive; key, interface, and length all matter.
- OS support wording differs between Silicon Power regional pages, so verify current local documentation for a specific phone, tablet, or computer.
- The aluminum and sliding-cover heat descriptions are vendor design statements, not a published thermal test.
Bottom line
The Silicon Power PD60 is a compact USB-C enclosure for turning a supported M.2 M-key NVMe or SATA SSD into portable storage. It is a good fit for readers who already own a 2230, 2242, 2260, or 2280 drive and want a tool-free enclosure, provided their host has an appropriate USB connection. Treat 10Gbps as the interface ceiling, not a promised copy speed, and remember that the SSD itself is not stated to be included.
