Sign in with ChatGPT lets you use your ChatGPT identity to create, link, or access an account with a supported external app or site. By itself, it shares basic identity details—not your chats, memories, files, billing information, or API key. Extra data access and use of your ChatGPT plan are separate choices, and disconnecting is not the same as signing out of the app or deleting its account.
What does Sign in with ChatGPT share?
OpenAI describes Sign in with ChatGPT as an identity-provider sign-in option. When you choose it on a supported app or site, that service receives your name, email address, and profile picture if you have one. You can use the option to create an account, link an existing account, or sign in to an account at that service.
Identity sign-in alone does not give the external app access to your ChatGPT conversations, memories, files, tokens, billing information, or other ChatGPT account data. OpenAI also processes information needed to authenticate you, apply organization settings, complete authorization, and protect the sign-in flow. That is OpenAI’s processing and should not be confused with what the external app receives.
Does signing in give an app access to my chats or other data?
No—not through identity sign-in alone. Some apps may separately request permission to access specific data or perform particular actions. Review that authorization screen independently before approving it; signing in does not mean you have to grant every additional permission the app requests.

For users in an organization, an administrator may need to approve delegated data access before a member can authorize it. The identity sign-in permission and permission to access data are distinct.
Can an app use my ChatGPT plan?
Plan use is a separate, optional feature. A ChatGPT Plus or Pro user may be able to let eligible AI requests in a partner app count toward ChatGPT Work and Codex usage included in the plan. The app may offer this only on certain app plans. You can still sign in to the app without enabling plan use; in that case, its AI requests do not count toward your ChatGPT plan through that connection.

Using your plan through an app does not, by itself, give the app access to your ChatGPT conversations or memories, and it does not share an OpenAI API key. The external app may charge separately for its subscription, infrastructure, services, or premium features. OpenAI says you can review app usage and set a weekly app limit in ChatGPT Settings > Usage. That limit caps usage; it is not a separate usage pool and does not increase your overall plan limits.
How do I disconnect an app from ChatGPT?

- Open Settings > Security and login in ChatGPT.
- Under Login connections, select Sign in with ChatGPT.
- Select the app or site, then choose Disconnect under Manage connection.
- Confirm by selecting Disconnect again.
OpenAI says disconnecting ends the connection’s authorization to use basic account information or your ChatGPT plan through that connection. If you sign in again later, review the permissions requested at that time before reconnecting.
What is the difference between signing out, disconnecting, and deleting?

Handle each action where it applies: disconnect in ChatGPT, sign out in the external app if you want to end its session, and contact the provider about deleting information it already holds.

Why might there be no Disconnect button?
OpenAI notes that a connection used only to sign in, without using the ChatGPT plan, may not show Manage connection or Disconnect. If those controls are absent, signing out in the external app ends your session there. To delete the account you have with that app, use its own deletion controls or contact its support. Signing out is not a substitute for disconnecting an available ChatGPT connection.

OpenAI’s Help Center says the feature is available globally to authenticated ChatGPT users, including people in Enterprise organizations. It is available on OpenAI Academy and ChatGPT Sites and is rolling out across selected plugins and partner sites. OpenAI’s listed initial partners are Airtable, GitLab, HubSpot, Notion, Supabase, and Vercel. A partner must support the option, and organization settings can affect availability.

Availability and partner support can change. If you do not see the option, the app may not support it, it may not yet be available to your account, or your organization may restrict it. Use another sign-in method offered by the app or ask your organization administrator.
What should organization members and admins know?
OpenAI says Sign in with ChatGPT is enabled by default for organizations without an explicit identity policy; existing allow or deny policies and approved-application lists remain in effect. Global admins manage organization-level application permissions under External access in the OpenAI Admin Console.
Identity sign-in and delegated data access are separate permissions. In the described admin preview for ChatGPT Business and Enterprise, delegated access for ChatGPT Sites and Ads is off by default and requires explicit admin approval. Member authorization and existing product permissions still apply.
How should I review an app connection?
- Check which identity details the app receives: name, email address, and profile picture if present.
- Read any separate authorization request for data access or actions, and grant only what you intend to authorize.
- Decide separately whether to enable eligible ChatGPT plan use; check the app’s plan requirements and any separate charges.
- If you are using a work or school organization, check whether admin approval or an organization policy applies.
- When you want to stop, choose the correct action: sign out, disconnect, and request data deletion are not interchangeable.
