Make a separate channel if the 24/7 stream serves a substantially different audience or viewing purpose from your regular videos—and you can promote and manage another destination. Keep it on your main channel if it fits the same audience and reinforces what viewers expect from you. YouTube does not require a separate channel, and its published guidance does not establish that splitting channels improves recommendations, discovery, growth, or revenue.
Decide by audience fit, not a supposed algorithm rule
A continuous stream can be a different product from edited uploads. For example, people may use an ambient or music stream as background listening, while visiting your main channel for tutorials or personality-led videos. If those audiences and purposes barely overlap, a dedicated channel can give the stream a clearer destination and identity. That is an editorial choice, not a YouTube requirement or a proven growth tactic.
If existing viewers already come for the stream’s subject and would value a continuous live version, keeping it on the main channel keeps related content together and extends the channel’s existing promise. YouTube describes Live as a way to connect with viewers in real time, but that guidance does not say which channel structure performs better (YouTube Help: Why choose Live).
Use this decision framework

If either structure still seems plausible, weigh four things: how much the audiences overlap, whether the stream fits your channel’s promise, how viewers will experience the channel, and whether you have the capacity to manage and promote an additional destination. A pilot may help you make an informed editorial decision if you can evaluate it and it does not evade a restriction; there is no established evidence that a pilot or either structure will grow faster.

Will a 24/7 stream hurt your main channel?
The official YouTube guidance cited here does not establish that a 24/7 stream on your main channel is penalized or rewarded by recommendations, or that making a separate channel improves performance. Treat claims that a split guarantees better discovery, subscriber growth, or earnings with caution. Choose the structure that best serves the audience and that you can maintain.
Check YouTube’s live-streaming rules before choosing
- Eligibility: YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days to enable live streaming. Its listed methods include mobile, webcam, encoder, and console streaming. See YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
- Restrictions: A second channel is not a workaround for an active live-streaming restriction; YouTube says restricted creators cannot use another channel to live stream while the restriction applies.
- Concurrent streams: YouTube’s current Help page lists a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. These are platform limits, not reasons by themselves to split a channel.
- Promotion and archives: YouTube recommends sharing a scheduled stream link at least 48 hours before going live and organizing archives and highlights. It says public archives can increase the reach of future streams; that is a recommendation, not a quantified guarantee. See YouTube Help: Promote your live stream.
Plan how viewers move between channels
If you operate a main channel and a dedicated stream channel, direct viewers clearly between them—for example, through your channel descriptions and scheduled-stream promotion. YouTube Live Redirect can send viewers at the end of one live stream to a Premiere or another live stream. Redirecting to another channel requires that channel’s permission. YouTube’s current Help page says the sending channel needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. See YouTube Help: How to use YouTube Live Redirect.

YouTube lists features such as Super Chat and Super Stickers, live ads, Premium revenue, and memberships as live monetization options. Their availability does not establish that a separate stream channel will earn more.
