It is less suited to players who want frequent hints, a clear linear path, or controls that feel immediately familiar. What kind of game is Lorelei and the Laser Eyes?
Developed by Simogo and published by Annapurna Interactive, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is a nonlinear puzzle mystery set in an old hotel somewhere in central Europe. An eccentric man summons a woman there to take part in a project. You explore the hotel, examine materials, and solve handcrafted puzzles as the mystery grows increasingly surreal. Nintendo categorizes it as an adventure and puzzle game, with single-system play.

The central pleasure is making connections: a clue found in one place may help with a puzzle much later, and progress can depend on recognizing how details fit together rather than reacting quickly. Simogo says its design draws on earlier games including Year Walk, DEVICE 6, and The Sailor’s Dream. The hotel also contains optional minigames, stories, and collectibles.
Is it worth playing, and who will enjoy it?
Buy it if you like being trusted to investigate, test ideas, and gradually assemble a story from things you find. Its nonlinear structure means you can explore other threads when you hit a wall instead of waiting for the game to lead you along one route. That freedom is part of the appeal, but it also means you need patience and a willingness to keep track of clues.

Reviewers have praised the atmosphere, puzzles, visual style, and narrative, while noting that the experience can be demanding. TouchArcade reviewer Mikhail Madnani reports that the game has no hint system and recommends keeping a notebook or using a note-taking app. Press Start reviewer James O’Connor likewise describes clues that can pay off many hours later and warns that some objects are easy to miss. These are reviewers’ accounts, not a guarantee that every player will find the same things difficult.
- A strong fit: you enjoy substantial puzzles, nonlinear exploration, eerie settings, and stories revealed through details.
- A weaker fit: you prefer frequent hints, a tightly directed sequence of objectives, or puzzles that resolve quickly.
- A practical aid: make your own notes about clues, locations, and unanswered questions. No particular notebook or app is required.
Is Lorelei and the Laser Eyes hard to play?
The difficulty is mainly in the thinking, not in demanding dexterity. Simogo describes the controls as directional inputs plus one button, explaining: “We wanted the complexity of the game to completely revolve around this, and never around dexterity.” That unusual scheme can take time to adjust to. TouchArcade and Press Start reviewers both note the adjustment, and Madnani says some directional interaction choices did not work well for him.
Finding what to interact with can be part of the challenge. Press Start’s review notes that some objects are easy to miss, so inspect rooms and materials carefully if progress stalls. Since the game does not provide a hint system according to TouchArcade’s reviewer, expect to rely on your own notes, exploration, and deductions rather than a built-in nudge.
