He attributed his decision to his mother’s advice to stay away from Pakistan politics and the PCB, while saying he still wants Pakistan cricket to improve.
What Shoaib Akhtar said about the PCB role
In remarks attributed to him on PTV Sports, Akhtar called the chief-selector reports speculative and false. Hindustan Times quoted him saying, “There is no truth to these claims. I am not at all interested in going to the PCB.” He added that he wanted “the betterment of Pakistan cricket” and believed he could serve the game in other ways. Hindustan Times reported his remarks.
PTI, in a report carried by The Economic Times, quoted Akhtar as saying: “Look, my mother told me to stay away from Pakistan politics and the PCB and I am going to stick to that advice.” The Economic Times report likewise says he would not accept a PCB position in the near future.
Was Akhtar offered the chief-selector job?
The reports describe the appointment as speculation, not a confirmed offer or appointment. PTI said no chief-selector offer had been made. Other claims suggested Akhtar had met PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi or had been offered a senior role, but the reports do not establish that either occurred. PTI noted that Akhtar did not say whether he had recently met Naqvi.
